The Falls Bar Boycott

the bar where that Immette St. Guillen was at right before she was strangled and killed last month is being boycotted

is that right?
Do you agree with the boycott?

Re: The Falls Bar Boycott

not at all. that is just silly imo.

i understand the frustration, but honestly, the bouncer/murderer is responsible for her death. not the bar owner.

Re: The Falls Bar Boycott

Interesting question - I do have some issues with the owner -

supposedly he withheld important information for almost a week

employed a convict as a bouncer - did he know the guy had a curfew and a record?? who knows.

1. if in fact the bartender slipped her a roofie, then i certainly think he should be held accountable for playing a part in her fate!! Chat Icon

2. this might explain why he (the owner) withheld info for so long!

Chat Icon

having said that - IF it turns out that this is true, then I would totally boycott the bar too.

I am bothered by the fact that the owner impeded the investigation. I wouldn't patronize it because the idea is sad and a bit creepy.

Wonder if the owner is seeing more business as a result of this.

These are the reasons why I would boycott the bar.

ETA -- since there is a law prohibiting hiring felons to work in bars, I would think he'd automatically check something like that. That could be an administrative oversight.

Withholding information is what really makes me angry.

You're exactly right. Well, I don't think that she by any means deserved what happened. But, I think it could have been avoided. She should have went home with her friends. And, her friends should never have left her. When we all go out there is a rule...you arrive together, you leave together. No matter how drunk you are, those are the rules!

The bar should not have to keep tabs on every single patron, so no, I don't agree with the ban. I think that Imette should have acted a little more responsibly.

I agree. It is not the owner's responsibility to enforce his curfew, it is the parol officers. Also, perhaps the owner did not know about his record.

Re: The Falls Bar Boycott

I cringe when I think back about some of the things I did!!

Newsday is now reporting that witnesses are saying she made a racially-charged remark to the bouncer and that may be what set him off. Certainly no excuse for what he did - just another reason for a young woman not in the right frame of mind NOT to be alone at 4am in a bar!!

i just edited my post...

if the bartender did do that, and the owner knew, and withheld that info, then they both should be punished! boycotting the bar is just the beginning of the trouble their in!! Chat Icon

I did lots of dumb things too and was very lucky but if the owner witnessed something he should have reported it not b/c he's the owner but a citizen.

Since I live under a rock & get my news for LIF, I'll base my information on the thread. I wouldn't go there. I'm not sure if you're calling that a boycott - since I tend to think of boycotts as an organized stance or those idiots that blocked me from buying diet coke at our campus deli.

I wouldn't go because I wouldnt' know what employees in the bar were in involved, to what extent, if they supported the bouncer, had a disgusting mentality that she deserved it, etc. Basically the same as MrsProfessor/Tracy said - I don't need a creepy feeling when I go out for fun.

Yes, I do.

The bar owners refused to allow the homicide detectives and the crime scene investigators into the bar for over a WEEK after the murder occured and even when they already had Littlejohn detained because of a remark he made that only a person who would have known inside info about the murder or the actual murderer would know. And it appears that they may have been responsible for the removing/destroying of alot of evidence in this case.

I agree with you 100%. People put themselves in dangerous situations. It doesn't mean they deserve what they get, but you ahve to be aware and friends need to be there for you (look at Natalie Holloway). Friends need to look out for friends. You don't leave someone alone at a bar, or with a strange guy, no matter what. You either make them go home or **** it up until they are ready to leave.

A friend of mine was left at a club by other friends of ours (I was in NY- they were in Boston), and she woke up the next morning in a hotel, raped, beaten up and robbed. It turns out some guy slipped her a roofie- and he did the same thing the week before, according to the hotel staff.

I think that if the bar owner impeded the investigation, that would be the only reason I would consider boycotting the bar. Although if I were a single girl- I would never feel safe there.

ETA: If the bartender DID slipped her a roofie I would definitely boycott the bar. You never know what could be in your drink.
