Question about feeding breast milk from a bottle

Hi ladies, I am thinking of trying to pump and give my daughter breast milk from a bottle after a few weeks of EBF...my questions are

1) do I have to do this transition slowly or can I just one day substitute a breast feeding for a breast milk bottle feeding?

2) are there certain bottles that are better than others for feeding her breast milk?

TIA

Steph

Re: Question about feeding breast milk from a bottle

I used Advent bottles and she used to go back and forth in the beginning, but gave me H E L L when i went to wean her.

It's great you are trying so early, she'll be less likely to refuse it and go back and forth.

I pumped some and gave it to her for a feeding, she did well.

If she fusses or refuses the bottle, don't force it, just nurse her and try again.

My LC told me the 666 rule

6 hours unfridg'd
6 days in fridge
6 months in freezer

Good luck!

sounds good. I am asking and I hope this does not sound wierd or selfish....

Our one year anniversary is 4/15 when the baby will be about 3 weeks old. I am hoping I can leave my mom (who will be watching her) a bottle of breast milk to feed her while me and kevin are out to dinner. I was not sure If I had to do this transition slowly or if it was ok to just give it to her and hope for the best. I may try it a few times before then just to make sure she is taking the bottle

Thanks for responding. I plan to wean her to formula once I go back to work at 3 months, unless I have a good stock of breast milk so that I can have my MIL give her bottled breast milk for a while Chat Icon

I weaned at 4 months cause i had to go back to work and didn't want to pump. At that time, DD fought me like crazy, it took me a month to get her to take the bottle all the time cause i stopped giving her bottles after she was 6-7 weeks old.

I left dd very early too, i needed time with just DH, it's perfectly okay and very healthy!

Ah, so maybe giving her a bottle all the time, even if it is only for one or two feedings a day will help with weaning....thanks so much Chat Icon

Re: Question about feeding breast milk from a bottle

I started Ella on bottles around 2-3 weeks, and she took right to them. Weaning her was the easiest. Since she got a few bottles during the day, I gradually cut out the boob and she didn't seem to care or notice.

I would try giving her the bottle a few times before you leave her with your mom so she's used to it and its not another new thing while you're not there.

I had Al give her the first few bottles so she wasn't expecting the boob, but I don't think that was really necessary.

I use Dr. Browns.

Re: Question about feeding breast milk from a bottle

Luca has been getting a bottle since he was 2.5 weeks old. I was worried about nipple confusion but he never had a problem and has an easy time going from bottle to boob. I don't suggest just leaving your mom with a bottle if you haven't introduced one yet. I would give a bottle at one feeding a day just to get the baby used to it.
