When do you buy clothes for the baby
It is my tradition that you don't buy much for the baby before she is born, but I know I will need to get clothes for those first few days and to leave the hospital in. When do you buy clothes? Thanks!
ETA: We are not having a baby shower.

Re: When do you buy clothes for the baby
We have a lot of clothes because this is our second. With our first baby, we got lots of things at the baby shower. We did go out and buy a couple of new outfits for this baby. Also, you will have family buying stuff when the baby arrives usually. Everyone loves shopping for baby!

Re: When do you buy clothes for the baby
Shelly, did you register for a layette? I will and my parents and ILs will pick it up (and pay for it ) once we have the baby. I will register for a boy layette and a girl layette since I am not finding out what I am having. When my BF's SIL had her first, I was responsible for going to Denny's to pick up the layette.

I would figure when it gets to be your last month or so, that you go out and buy somethings. Since you can really go at any time.

Re: When do you buy clothes for the baby
I always understood the layette to be the first outfits the baby will wear. I know BBB has a layette section Maybe the BTDT moms can assist us newbies over here?

Re: When do you buy clothes for the baby
We got a lot of neutral stuff at the shower (didn't find out the gender) but the day she was born my mom went to Baby Gap on her way home from the hosptial and bought pretty much everything they had in pink!
Denny's does let you register ahead of time for a layette and you can do one for a girl and one for a boy and then send someone to pick it up for you while you are in the hospital. To be honest, I have no idea what a layette is. I feel like it's one of those old fashioned words for things, like when I got engaged one of my great aunts asked if I had my trousseau yet. No idea what that is either.

Re: When do you buy clothes for the baby
A layette is basically everything you will need in the beginning. Strechies, nightgowns, onesies, blankets, towels, washcloths etc. Stores like Denny's help you pick everything you need, and put it aside for you to pick up once the baby is born. I think if you are having a shower, you will get most of the stuff you need. I will probably buy some stuff fo rmyself when I find ou tthe sex, and then register for the rest.

Re: When do you buy clothes for the baby
Start shopping? I can't stop!!!!!! I have always shopped for everyone elses kids and now that I am having my own, I can't get enough. I know a lot of people who's tradition is not to have anything in the house for the baby before he/she is born but that didn't last long for me. Plus I have wonderful friends who have bought me stuff as well

Thank you. I didn't realize it was everything. I thought it was just the clothes! This is certainly better (especially since the granparents are paying for it ) I guess I should have researched this a little better since I was the one who suggested it!
