Question about breast pumps for the BTDT moms...

I'm looking at different pumps and not sure if I need all the bells and whistles. What is the most important features I should look for. I plan to continue nursing after I return to work so I assume I will need something that travels.

Any help would be appreciated because I don't know where to start.

Make sure you purchase a pump that is made for working moms, like Medela, and one that's not for occasional use.

I have the Medela Pump in Style, it was 250 bucks, Target carries it too. I didn't want the bells and whistles either. It's a double, electric pump and comes with a battery pack too and a carrying case.

I love it so far, I can get 5-10 ounces out in about 15 minutesor less.

I say go for a Medela, I rent a symphony and I can pump LOTS in 10-15 minutes. I pump exclusively...for me I would say that the Symphony with the 2 phase expression is a great feature, it has no other bells and whistles. You turn it on, turn the dial up to high, put the horns on your tatas, it does a quick sort of svck, then once you get letdown, in around 2-3 minutes, it goes to a slower sVck

If you want to rent one, fm me, I know a LC who has them.

Re: Question about breast pumps for the BTDT moms...

If you are planning to return to work you should purchase a PIS. A lower end pump is for occassional pumping.
The rental will be very hard to bring back and forth for you. You really only need it if you have low supply or medical issues or in the beginning of your pumping/nursing experience.

I can help you figure out a schedule, but bascially you need to pump every 3-4 hours for 15-30 minutes, depending on your body. You should also be aware that in the begining of pumping you might not get a lot but that is because your body needs to get used to a pump..a baby suckling is very different.

You can purchase it online from a great seller on eBay NEW, sealed with a full warrenty for less than the retail stores. Let me know if you are interested. THat is how I got my pump and she is great to deal with.
Also, I HIGHLY rec'd the hands free "bra" that holds the breast shields in place so you can type, hold the baby etc...

Thanks...that is the one I am leaning towards. Is there an advantage to the Advance as compared to the other one?

The PISA is just a new technology with a "let down" feature. I loved mine. But I know plenty of girls with a PIS who love that one too.
