Wedding Gift Question

We are going to a wedding of one of the guests that came to ours..

I just checked to see the approx. size gift they gave and I feel guilty giving the amount they gave us in return.

What would you do?

Chat Icon hmmm, I don't know... I would probably give a little more, maybe $150.

Re: Wedding Gift Question

I purposely threw away the list of "gifts" people gave us at our wedding because when it comes down to it, there's a specific amount I feel is appropriate to give regardless of what others gave us. You never know people's financial situations, y'know?

my opinion is that you give what you can afford, I guess it depends how close I was with that person. I think it does depend on some things.

I agree. One of DH friend gave us an envelope with $20 in it. For his wedding gift we gave him $150.

Re: Wedding Gift Question

I just give my standard even if they do give us a lot less for our wedding
friend 400
family 500-600
etc......

eta
and when I do get married next year, I already expect many couples, especially ones from upstate to give us a lesser amount than what is normally expected in Long island. Fully intend to give them what I always give everyone when they get married

I agree with what you gave. I would never give someone $20 for any occasion. The minimum DH & I have given from both of us was $200.

Also, for our wedding it was not about the gift it was about people taking time out of the busy schedule to share our moment. We did not get upset about the $20 because quite frankly we do not know if he is having financial hardship or not. We were happy that he was there for us and he such a sweet guy.
