Sorry, but I'm going to whine a bit...

I thought I was in the clear and I wasn't going to get cholestasis with this pregnancy. Of course, now I have it and it's worse than it ever was with my first pregnancy. I can't even sleep at night. The itching is sooooooooooooooooo unbearable. I'm hating my doctor right now Chat Icon

What is cholestasis exactly? I don't think I have this but I know about the itching. I wake up every night sometimes not able to go back to sleep with itchy hands and feet. I hope you feel better soon! Chat Icon

Edited: I just read this and it says itchy hands and feet and you could have it if you're pg with multiples. Do you think I could have this?

It's always worse for me on my hands and feet. You very well could have it. I would have your doctor do some bloodwork on your liver functions just in case Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Apparently not Chat Icon I just went to the doctor today. He insisted that Benadryl should work (it doesn't) and also insisted that a cortisone or prednisone shot wouldn't do anything. Meanwhile, my cousin's wife had cholestasis and a cortisone shot was the only thing that helped her. My doctor literally laughed when I asked about the cortisone shot. He makes me feel like I'm a moron that has no clue.

I'm 36 weeks now. My C-section is scheduled for October 6th, so luckily I won't have to suffer for too much longer. I just can't believe how my doctor doesn't care at all.

I'm sorry to hear your doctor is so insensitive. It's amazing how doctors can be so different. I hope you find some comfort somehow. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Sorry, but I'm going to whine a bit...

Kristin-

I didnt have cholestasis but I prob had one of the worst cases of PUPPS around...

I will say the predinosone worked in the HIGH dosage only... after a week of being on it..

the lower dosage did cr@p-

I dont think they'll start you off high- I think they usually wean you up....and then wean you down...

So since you only have 2 weeks left- You wouldnt get a whole lot of relief...

Have you tried the Sarna cream- and tar soap?

Benadryl is for the birds!!!!

The other 2- dont solve the itching... but gives a small small bit of relief!

Luckily, I go to a specialist as well and I happen to have an appointment this week, so I'm HOPING that perhaps he can help me out somehow. Chat Icon

He insisted that stuff like Cortisone and Predinosone wouldn't work at ALL. I didn't realize the shots took so long to take effect though. I guess it was the way he reacted that bothered me more than anything.
I haven't bothered with Sarna, because I've been doing a lot of research on this and read that topical ointments and antihistimines are pretty much useless since the itching is an INTERNAL allergic reaction (which is why I was shocked that he even made me try Benadryl in the first place).
The only thing that soothes me a little is taking ice cold showers, so I guess I'll just have to keep doing that. My doctor prescribed me Cholestyramine (I took this last time when pregnant with Christopher) and I've read on several sites that doctors don't prescribe it any more, because it actually does more harm than good. Yeah, my doctor's really on top of his game Chat Icon. Like I said, hopefully my specialist will be able to shed some light. Thank goodness I see him on Friday. Thanks for the info!Chat Icon

Chat Icon hope your specialist can help...I am allergic to benadryl (i know, my luck!) so its never an option for me...even though you are so close there is no reason to be uncomfy! good luck! Chat Icon
