Gestational Diabetes

If some of you read my previous posts, you saw that I was concerned about having GD even though I took the test two times earlier in the pregnancy and both came back normal. Last week I went for a NST and the perintalogist suggested that I go for the test again. I went this past Tuesday and my doc called me today to tell me that I am borderline.

I am worried because I am 36 weeks now. Who would I go to see first? I am waiting anxiously for my doctor to call me back.

Also, any advice on what I should and should not be eating.

Re: Gestational Diabetes

Don't worry too much. I had GD and if you are borderline then you probably wouldn't have a very difficult time maintaining your blood sugar level anyway. I had pretty high levels at my 1 hour -- they didn't even do the 3 hour, and it wasn't even hard for me to maintain my blood sugar. It did help me to have a very big baby -- she was 9 lbs 10 oz, but other then that we didn't really have any complications.

As far as your diet is concerned just watch your carbs. My nutritionist put me at 30 carbs for breakfast and lunch, 45-60 for dinner, and 2 snacks a day at 15 carbs each. She told me to eat whole grains like wheat bread instead of white bread -- things like that. When you do have carbs try to make them as wholesome as possible, but don't cut them out completely! They said that a big part of your diet still needs tocome from carbs so that your baby can thrive in the womb.

If you have any questions FM me. I wish you luck, and try not to stress too much about it!
