Things they don't tell you in books...

This post might fit better over on the parenting board, but here goes.... What are some things that you have heard "through the grapevine" that you didn't read in any pregnancy books? (By the way may be TMI).....For example, a friend told me today that a few weeks before I am due I should line my bed with vinyl/plastic and my car seat too in case my water breaks because it stains. Ewww...Chat Icon

No one told me when my water broke it could be a slow leak, I would have to look to notice. The books said water leaking would be a gush and "you would definitely know". It almost severly infected the baby and I!

That a good one!! What about once you are home and you have to get out of bed in the morning...I wasn't expecting a gush then too! Its like all the fluid inside you pools up when you are lying down. I was afraid to stand up in the morning! Girls, make sure you have a couple of packs of maxi pads at home, that is not in the books! You will need them and go through them fast. I had to send my husband out.

Oh yes! And I slept with a towel under me bc I was scared I would stain the sheets.

ETA: If you end up tearing or having an episiotomy, stop at the drug store on the way home to buy a donut. It was worth the 6 bucks.

WOW!! 3 weeks? I just stopped bleeding and I'm 4 weeks tomorrow PP. My Dr. told me not to have sex until after my 6 week appointment. I guess because I tore and got stitches..

NOOOOO, I haven't "done" anything yetChat Icon . I actually haven't even fully stopped bleeding yet (very light)....I'll be 4 weeks PP on Monday and was told to see the Dr 4-5 weeks PP (I guess b/c I didn't have stitches). I'm just saying that 3 weeks ago there was no way I was EVER having s e x again, now I've decided I willChat Icon

I'm not even pregnant, but after this, you can bet that I'm carrying a backpack around weeks before and after birth filled with pads, towels, plastic drop cloth LOL Chat Icon

The one that freaks me out the most is the pooping on the table which I had no clue about till I heard from a PG friend Chat Icon

Get yourself some hospital grade Dermoplast found near the sunburn stuff at the drugstore. Spray it down yonder and it will numb the pain and make you feel SOOO much better PP.

How painful it is to get up out of bed the first day after a c-section. It took me 30 minutes to sit in the chair next to my bed.Chat Icon

I was going to say the same exact thing! They made me get up to go to the bathroom after they took the cathetar (sp?) out and OH MY GOD did that hurt. The pain was overwhelming. I also wasn't expecting it to hurt so much when having sex with DH again afterwards.
