For those who have/had wood paneling...

Did you paint over it or tear it down?

both

in are hallway we rip it off and had to re-sheetrock

our two main floor bedrooms are 100% panel - we painted them for now until - they look great but over the winter we are ripping the panel down and re-doing both rooms

We painted over panelling that had been painted over. I actually didn't realize it was panelling until I was painting and it dawned on me. It looks nice.

We have painted over it. I was all for taking it down but we took down some wall paper to find a huge crack in the wall. So we are going to get beadboard paneling for that room.

I'm happy with how the painted-over paneling came out. One day we'll get rid of it, but for now it's fine.

Re: For those who have/had wood paneling...

We tore down all of our wood paneling from the main house, and replaced the sheetrock underneath it also.
In our studio apartment, we just painted over the paneling. Actually, it was already painted and we painted over it again.
We have a wall of wood paneling in our basement that we will replace someday, but right now basement is low on the priority list.
If you want to see pictures of the painted paneling let me know!

Half and half - tore most of it down and replaced the sheetrock.. but in the office we filled all of the gaps in the paneling with spackle; then sanded and painted it. It looks good, except for a couple of areas where one sheet of paneling joins the other, and there is more of a gap - but thats OK, we knew it wasnt going to be perfect. We're just going to put a bookcase there anyway!
