Job help...UPDATE
As some of you may know...both DH and I got laid off right around Thanksgiving. We have been searching for jobs, but nothing as of yet. Well...I got offered some consulting work...which I would like to pursue. We think DH will be finalizing the details on something next week, so he can pick up benefits with his new job.
For me...I have 2 choices. 1. A consulting project close to home where I can come home everyday for less $$$.
2. A consulting project where there would be travel involved (not sure how much, hoping to hear the details sometime today), while not traveling, I would work from home on the project, and for more $$$.
I am confused because for job 1, they offered it, and they want a decision by 2pm today...and they want me to start on Monday. I am still waiting to hear all the details for #2. I spoke with the person via email for job #2 and told them I need to know the details because I have to make a decision today. DH says to hold out for job #2 because it's alot more $$$.
Advice...opionions please....
UPDATE: So...I took job #1. It was a firm offer...it's consulting, but could wind up turning into a full time position, or I may just continue consulting when the project is over. I spoke to the woman at job#2, and they like my background and my references, but they don't have a project to assign me at the moment..they have lots of things up in the air and it could be weeks or months to get them to be signed off on. So...she said if I have a firm offer that is local, I should take it. When my project is over, give her a call and if they have any projects going on then, she will use me. So...I start Monday

Re: Job help...
Are you comfortable with travel and what it will mean to your TTC process?
If yes, than job 2 sounds good - more money, work from home a lot, some travel.
If not, than maybe job 1 is better.
This is a tough one!

Yes...I have taken into account our TTC struggles...I guess I'm hoping that this month will be the last one and I won't have to worry. If I get PG, then I can make more money to bank away in the next few months so I can take the time when I'm due...and then get back into consulting. Job #2 is working with a firm...where they find the consulting work...and just assign it out to you. However...if I were to get PG this month...job #1 which is close to home, is about a 6-9 month project...which would coinside nicely with getting PG now.

Re: Job help...
I would opt for Job#2 if you don't mind the travel. My theory is to make as much money pre-baby as possible, so you can take the time you need afterwards.

I would take into consideration the fact that if you do get pg, is the traveling via plane? You might not be able to do the traveling involved and you could open yourself up to being let go from another job again.

Re: Job help...
I know it's not ideal, but can you accept job #1 and still find out about job #2? And if it's that much better you can always pull out of #1.
Only because they seem to be pressuring you...I wouldn't normally recommend this!

I thought about that...but I don't want to back out and make a bad name for myself...especially if I want to stay in the consulting environment. I emailed the lady at job #2 and asked her to please call me because I have to make a decision. I know the person at job #2 called my references....it's just a waiting game. I don't want to say no to #1, and then #2 doesn't come through and then I have nothing all over again.
