some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
ok, so these are silly but I have no idea...so any help would be appreciated! (and girls feel free to add your own so I don't feel so DUMB!)
1. Do we bring clothes for the baby besides what we want to bring her home in?? (ie - undershirts of onsies or something for when she is in the nursery/our room before we are realeased??)
2. As a mom, will I most likely be wearing my own pjs or the hospital gown? (I have heard mixed things on this!) Should I bring clothes or just pjs?
3. We can bring a hat or booties or something for her to wear in the nursery right?? What about a blanket???
4. Do we need to bring pacifiers and stuff, do they give you some, etc???
thanks!

Re: some cumb questions for when you go to the hopsital to have the baby.....
I was told that they will provide the onesies, but you can bring an outfit for them to wear home in. I will bring my own PJs and slippers and bathrobe. I was also told that they give you bottles, at least my hospital told me they would. That is something I have to do today is pack my bag

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
Not dumb at all. How would you know?
1. Some people like to bring clothes so the baby is dressed when people meet them for the first time in the hospital, for pictures, etc. We just left both of them in the t-shirt and receiving blanket from the hosptial and dressed them when we were leaving.
2. I liked wearing my own clothes. It made me feel a lot better once I got out of the hosptial gown. I wore black sweats and t shirts during the day and a nightgown at night. Also, the hosptial I delivered at (NS Manhasset) didn't have the mesh panties some provide, so you need your own underwear. Also, I liked having my own pillow and towel.
3. I personally wouldn't send anything to the nursery, it might get mixed up with the hosptial laundry and you'd lose it. JMO. ETA: The hosptial will provide a hat for the baby.
4. If you are formula feeding they provide 2 oz bottles and nipples. My hosptial also had a breast pump in the room that you could use while there, I'm sure they all do that. My roommate was using it since she had her baby very early and she wanted to get her milk flowing so her baby could get it while in NICU. My hosptial didn't have pacifiers (at least not that I saw) so we brought our own for Andy and left it in the bassinet. When they'd bring him to me in the morning they always had it in his mouth.
Good luck! Cathy

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
I was told by my hospital (they sent me this huge packet in the mail)- that they will provide everything for the baby while in the hospital- i need to bring her going home outfit. I will bring all stuff for myself (clothing, PJs, undies, my own pillow, etc).

1. No, you don't need to bring anything for the baby besides what you are going to bring the baby home in. I believe most hospitals prefer that you not dress them in other what they do. They need to get to the baby easily for various things.
2. You may want to bring something that you feel comfortable walking around in outside of your room. The gowns don't have a back so you may want a robe or nightgown to walk to the nursery. I used the hospital gowns because I have a v-delivery and was bleeding a lot. It is easier to use the bathroom when you don't have a back and you stain their gowns, not your clothes.
3. You can bring anything for your baby to wear but it isn't necessary. Some people like having the cute receiving blankets but you don't need them.
4. They give you pacifiers and most anything you may need.

For the baby just brong a going home outfit. They provide a long sleeved onesie, blankets, and hats. They also provide formula (if you're ff), and pacis. I'm packing my own pajamas, but I suggest wearing the hospital gown for the first day after giving birth. You bleed a lot the first day, and I didn't want to get my pjs dirty.

I won't reiterate what everyone else said, but I will tell you that JT commented on how ugly the hats were that they put on Ava, and the nurses were excited because they got to break out the hats that volunteers make for the hospital and they were SO cute! Definitely ask if your hospital has them (I knwo a few do).

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
Deirdre St Charles has little knitted caps made by senior citizens, from what I remember when my friend had her baby there. Not as fancy as Miss Ava's
I wore the hospital's gown for the first two days, and then my own PJ's and a I brought a robe.
I would suggest bringing your own pillow because hospital pillows s*ck!!
The hospital will supply bottles, diapers, onesies, blankets, and pacifiers.
They will offer to take pics in the hospital so you may want to bring a nice blanket and cute outfit for that (or just use your coming home outfit )

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
I did bring clothes (sleeping gowns) for my baby to wear. The staff wasn't too thrilled about it though. They would bring her to me in the am in her undershirt and diaper and I would dress her. I kept her in the room with me all day, so I didn't care what they thought. I wanted her dressed. I also made sure they put the pretty flowered gown on her when she had her newborn pics taken.

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
I packed a diaper bag for my baby, just in case but never needed anything. I also brought two outfits, hat and socks plus her blankets. I also packed my own PJ's, but only wore my robe.

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
Are you delivering at St Charles?
I didn't bring clothes for Ali, she didn't need it.
I brought my own clothes, I had found VERy VERY comfortable DARK GREY PJ pants at Old Navy and I wore those with a tank top the entire time in the hospital (except the first day). I also needed my own underwear - you will bleed alot - so make sure you use old underwear and have dark colored pants
You can bring booties and hats if you want (I didn't) - this was the hat they had for her
St Charles supplies all the 2 oz, pacifiers, and stuff.

Re: some dumb questions for when you go to the hospital to have the baby.....
I brought PJ's for me ( Pants and tops) for the day and I slept in the hospistal gowns at night ( in case of bleediing)
I didnt bring any clothing for the baby only the take home out fit. It is not necessary to bring any extra with you.
Good luck

1. Do we bring clothes for the baby besides what we want to bring her home in?? (ie - undershirts of onsies or something for when she is in the nursery/our room before we are realeased??
- I didnt- but after my 2nd day theire made my DH bring up some of the babys stuff- people were always in and out visiting, and I could wait to dress DS up- He took his hospital pic- fully dressed!
2. As a mom, will I most likely be wearing my own pjs or the hospital gown? (I have heard mixed things on this!) Should I bring clothes or just pjs?
-Your own PJ's- I had brought my own PJ's and a sweat suite- I was to sore to wear "real" clothes- but the sweats and tee-shirt thing worked well for me!
3. We can bring a hat or booties or something for her to wear in the nursery right?? What about a blanket???
-You can bring whatever you want- Ryan had a stuffed animal and his own blanket in his isolate
4. Do we need to bring pacifiers and stuff, do they give you some, etc???
- The hospital will provide you pacifiers, formula, diapers etc... but if their is something you want your baby to have specifically then bring it!
ETA- You might wanna bring your own pads... the hospital ones, had no sticky so if it moved- it made a mess...
Truthfully- POISE (diapers) are like HUGE pads- and for me- worked wonders!
