Moms of "big" babies...

I know many of you had big babies when they were born -- 9-11 lb babies is basically what I mean by "big."

I'm wondering if your babies were always big at thier check-ups, or if it evened out.

Emily was 9lbs 10 oz when she was born and goes for her 2 month tomorrow and I just can't wait to find out how big she is. I have friends whose babies have doubled her weight already but they were only 6-7lbs when born -- I just don't know what she's going to be!!

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

Nate was 10lbs 3 oz, 22 inches at birth and has already double his birth weight by the time he was 5 months. At his check up 4 weeks ago, he was 21lbs and 28 inches.

I've heard that when they become more active the rate of weight gain will even out. I'm hoping that's the case for Nate now that he's more active and starting to crawl.

Andrew was big - he was 9 lbs 7 oz., 22" and he came 3 weeks early!! He was always 95+% on the charts, until about his 8 or 10 month visit, where he went downa bit. He was crawling and a lot more active.

He is now 19 months and is above 95% for height (34.5 inches) and about 85% for weight (28 lb. 3 oz). I guess you could say he'a always been at the top of the growth charts.

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

Do either of you remember what your babies weighed at 2 months?

She was 9-10 at birth
9-6 when she came home and at 1 wk checkup
10-5 at 1 month

11-4 about 3 weeks ago.

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

My son was 9lb 3 oz and hes always been tall but not always on the high end of the weight percentile. When he was 4 or 5 months - 9 months, he was definitely an average weight, actually underweight according to my pediatrician but he seemed fine to me. My one nephew was 11 lb 13 oz at birth (not kidding!) and hes an average 5 year size now. He never struck me as big except the first few months. The rule of thumb is tripled weight at a year and my son was definitely not 27 1/2 lbs at a year.

My daughter was born in the 95% for both height and weight and now she is still in the 95% for height but down to the 75% for weight. Neither my husband or I are tall so I am assuming that it will even out. She will be 8 months old and is already wearing 12 month clothing.

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

My son was born 10lbs 5oz, 23 inches long..
He was in the 98%tile the entire year for EVERYTHING....

After he learned to walk, he started coming down a little, the 89th II think was the lowest percentile.. But he is VERY tall for his age,a dn to be any thinner he would look like he doesnt eat! ...My niece was born 9lbs15oz, and she was a big baby for her first year, and then she plateaued immensely after she began to walk.. Specifically in her height, and eventually her weight dropped too. HTH!! Chat Icon

I was always proud of my lil butterbean.. No matter how much of a porker he was! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

Gianni was born at 9 pounds and now he's about 11.5-12 pounds and he's 5.5 weeks. His length is roughly 24 inches (he was born at 22in) I'm sure he'll remain at the top of the charts for at least the first year.

Gabriella was tiny when she was born...7lb 3 oz and by month two, she was at 100% for height and 90-95 % for weight. I think she was somewhere around 11.5 pounds, but I don't have her stuff near me. At 20 months, she still remains at the top of the charts for height (usually about 95% now) and her weight still typically falls in the 80-90%. She may have slowed down a little, but nothing drastic and she has been eating a lot lately, so I assume she's hitting a new spurt. Chat Icon

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

Well Caiden was 10lb 12oz and 22 inches long. He measured out at 97th percentile for the longest time for everything. Up until he was a year he went down to 75th % for weight, height and head size are still up there though. He's almost 23 months and he's such a big boy!

When I was PG with him he measured big throughout my whole PG. He takes after daddy! He's 6' 4"! Chat Icon

SAme here- Bryan was a big baby 9lbs 10 oz and now he is only 14+ lbs at almost 6 months he dropped to th e 50 th percentile. Some of this has to do with his reflux and the other part is genetics because me and Dh are really thin and always have been.

Re: Moms of "big" babies...

My Emily was 9lbs. 1 oz at birth and 22 inches. She didn't double her birth weight until about six months old. She is now almost 16 months old and weighs 24lbs and is 32 inches long. At two months she was around 14 to 15 pounds. When she was a "baby" she was always 95% for both weight and height. When she started crawling, she went down to 75% for weight and stayed 95% for height.
