UPDATED WITH PICS AT BOTTOM. Help needed from those NOT decorating challenged!

DH and I just painted our bedroom over the long weekend. The color we used is Nectarina from Behr (It's Terracotta!) Right now we only have our bed, a TV and two TV trays as our nightstands, so I'm looking to complete our bedroom, now that it's finally painted. I'd really like to keep it a very warm and cozy room, but I have no decorating sense and color coordination sense.

What color curtains should I use? I was thinking something in the brown family, neutral color, lie beige? We're also going to be putting down a large area rug. Our bedroom is 13.5 x 16.5 so the area rug would actually be close to the size of the room. I have no idea what color to use for the rug... want to stay away from whites, as we have a black cat that likes to shed.

The furniture I'm going with is a lighter colored wood, don't want to get anything too dark.

TIA!

We haven't gotten any furniture yet, but my taste is on the traditional side. I'm not into modern or contemporary look

Re: Help needed from those NOT decorating challenged!

WHY GET AN AREA RUG IF ITS GOING TO BE COVERED BY THE BED AND FURN.

GET ONE SMALLER RUG MAYBE 5X6 RUG PLACE IT ON AN ANGLE STICKING OUT FROM THE FOOT OF THE BED, OR ONE FOR EACH SIDE OF BED, CURTAINS I WOULD DO CREAMS MAYBE SOME NICE ROMAN SHADES, WITH A VALANCE

I love the striped look for curtains and bedding against a terracotta.

The wall color sounds beautiful. What does your bedding look like? Can you post a picture?

Re: Help needed from those NOT decorating challenged!

According to my MIL, who apparently according to her is a decorating maven, you must have curtains that match the wall color to make the room look larger. But her decorating advice has been driving me nuts so how about a warm beige?

right now, I have nothing that matches! We haven't been in the house that long so the bedding I have was just something I bought so we had something for the new bed. I had originally thought to paint the bedroom a sage green, but decided a warm color instead. So right now my bedding is sage green, and the comforter is a plaid pattern of green, beige and a little black.

I'm leaning for the curtains to go a soft beigh as Ckgm suggested. I don't think I'd want to do the curtains in the same color as the walls, that might drive DH crazy.

I agree...window treatments are last. Do the rest of the room..no wonder you are having so much trouble..you have other decorating to do first!

I agree--do the window treatments last. I also agree that doing the windows in the color of the wall should make the room look larger.

Other colors I would like with the terracotta are browns, yellows and reds (like a rusty red maybe). The reds might be something to add a splash of color to an otherwise nuetral room if you go with beiges/sand.

I love that one on the right! Thanks!!!

I get so many thoughts in my head that I never know where to start. I have a "look" in my mind, but don't know quite how to pull it together or even explain it for that matter!

I agree - if you do the other things first, the window treatments will be a lot easier. I didn't do my window treatments until 3 years after being in the co-op...then a year and a half later I changed them again. But it was easier to know what I wanted at that point.

Good Luck!

Oh and I agree - I like the bedding on the right too and it looks like it would compliment the paint color that you have on the walls!

We found a couple of bedroom sets we liked but I want to shop around before making a decision, it's alot of $$ and I want to make sure I absolutely love what we end up with for that kind of $$. I still have to paint the trim in the room too.

Thanks Kim! I'll probably be taking you up on that Chat Icon

So, DH and I have been looking at furniture for the bedroom, we saw this set in Raymour Flannigan last week, and are seriously considering it (we're checking out a couple of other stores in western jersey this weekend) What do you ladies think?

Bedroom set, minus headboard (we didn't like the one that came with this set)

We really liked this leather headboard bed, do you think it would go with the furniture? It's not as dark in person as it is in the picture
