Preschool Question...

Emma is starting Preschool in September. I know there is a parent orientation in September but I don't know if/when I am going to receive a list of stuff for her class. She is going for 3 hours 3x a week. Do I need to get her a back pack or lunch box? I dont know protocol for such a short day.

Re: Preschool Question...

I am a preschool teacher. At my school, the half day children usually dont bring a lunchbox, since they dont eat there but they do bring a backpack. I also request each child have a folder in their backpack for their projects, school letters, etc.

I am sure every school is different but this is what I usually ask for.

Re: Preschool Question...

Last year Sammy went 3x a week from 9 - 12:30. He had to bring a backpack large enough for projects, and a folder. Lunch and snack were provided there.

Re: Preschool Question...

I also taught Pre-K for 3 years in a private catholic school and for half-day kids they didn't bring a lunch box or snack -- I provided the snack for them every day. They brought a backpack and there were supplies tht they brought in, like baby wipes (great for cleanups), paper towels, some school supplies and a change of clothes.

You will probably recieve a letter but if you dont' I'd pack a change of clothes in a ziploc baggie along with an empty shopping bag tucked inside just in case, a little thing of wipies, s small snack/juice just in case, a backpack and a little card for the teacher with your contact info. It also wouldn't hurt for you to call the school to find out why you haven't recieved notice on anything because I'd have expected something also.

Re: Preschool Question...

I work in a preschool and the program is two and a half hours. Each child brings their own backpack, notebook, and lunch/snack.

Re: Preschool Question...

Karen - the teacher will probably tell you what supplies she requires on the orientation day. As an example last year, Paul needed:

- backpack
- notebook
- folder
- large, empty coffee can
- standard shoe box

Re: Preschool Question...

When Jordan was in Pre-K he was there for 2 1/2 hrs.. he needed a backpack with a lunch box for snack and a drink everyday, a folder for papers to be sent home in, Purrell, and I sent a change of clothes in the first day that was kept there for the year.

Orientation is like September 7th... school starts on the 11th. Not like giving parents time to get stuff prepared.

Oh can I ask what the empty coffee can was for?
