Blood in poop - sorry if TMI

Hi guys - I don't know what to do. Molly has diarrea like poop right now with traces of red in it. I'm not sure if it's blood - or if it's Strawberry juice (because my dopey husband was giving her some strawberry juice yesterday.

I don't want to be a nag and that girl who always calls the vet for everything. What should I do?

IMO, you can never be to cautious. However, I thought I heard that blood in poop is black, not red. But, I could be wrong.

Re: Blood in poop - sorry if TMI

I called the vet and they said to not feed her for the rest of the day - I asked if I can give her grilled chicken - they said to not feed her anything today so that her stomach can settle. If she still has it tomorrow then I should bring her in.

She also said that the blood in diarrea is common.

They also said that it has nothing to do with the surgeries and all that since she has been fine for the last three weeks.

What do you guys think?

Maybe she is straining to go(tmi)?
Did you change her food??
just to be on the safe side I would take her to the vet tomorrow. If her behavior changes(lethargic) take her to your emergency vet.

Re: Blood in poop - sorry if TMI

I changed her food - but that was about two weeks ago. I am trying to get in touch with DH at work to see what he fed her yesterday (while I was at a shower) but I can't get him.

She was very cuddly and mushy this morning and has been lazy all day so I can tell that she def. doesn't feel right.

Against the doctors orders I gave her some plain grilled chicken. She has to have been starving. Chat Icon

If she was eating strawberries, most likely it is that but keep an eye on her and her poop for 1 more day. Mainly everything goes in and out of a dog's system in 24 hrs (which is why they cant get food poisoning) so if there is still red there in 2 days, then I would contact the vet.

Re: Blood in poop - sorry if TMI

Thanks everyone. She hasn't pooped since later on in the afternoon but DH admitted that he gave her a strawberry yesterday after I specifically told him not to. MEN are soooooooo annoying sometimes.

I hope it was just the strawberry - I guess we'll see tomorrow.

She is thankfully back to her playful self though. She barely moved all afternoon and at about 6:00 she got out of her funk.
