Book related - A Million Little Pieces

I know this belongs in the storyboard, but this place gets more traffic.. and besides, it's still "Not Family Related" Chat Icon

Anyone read it? I'm thinking of picking it up and wanted to opinions other than Oprah's Chat Icon

For all you advocates of pushing the section traffic, I posted this in StoryBoard as well... Chat Icon

I have read it and I loved it. I don't care about the embelishment parts. Great book and I read it because Oprah said so!!!!

Really? I don't think that bothers me so much... Sure I think it's f'ed up that he lied about it... but I don't know.. who knows the state of mind he was in then... so maybe he made up stories in his head? Meanwhile I've never read it.. so I could sound like a complete idiot right now...lol

I guess i am in the minority I thought the book depicted a great addict however it saddened me when i found out the embellished part .. I mena coming from a background of that it made me so happy to see someone that bad(which there are many worse) recover .. i thought it was inspirational yet now think my own story is more powerful.

I don't mind that it is made up so much....But it ruined the feel of the book for me..

I know it will be in the back of my head wondering, is this part true? Is this what happened?

Ah, yes, I would probably be thinking the same thing....

I need a good book! I'm over Jodi Picoult for the moment.. I haven't liked her endings in the past 3 books I read of hers!

Re: Book related - A Million Little Pieces

I was a little annoyed at what I found out not to be true. At first I thought what a book, what a man, but when you realize a big portion of it is fiction, it makes his struggle just like an other addicts, while Oprah had him portrayed as this GOD IMO.

I read the entire 9 page smoking Gun piece on what he embellished and it was a LOT. He was no where like he claimed to be. It dissappointed me a LOT.

See, I read the book beofre all this came into the light so I didn't have to think about that. But even if some parts were "embelished" or whatever I walked away w/ what I wanted to with this book. I just ordered Night, I can't wait to read it

I loved this book. It was so powerful and well-written. I would recommend it to anybody. I have several clients who are recovering addicts and they also recommended the book.

Re: Book related - A Million Little Pieces

Love this book too.
I read it a couple of weeks ago and I just wanted to read it again, so i started yesterday.
It's the best book I've read so far...
I don't think he "made up" stuff in the book...just embellished a few things..which of course, writers do.
He only "embellished" on his criminal charges..which IMO , the story does not revolve around this..its about his time in rehab...
And I don't even think AMLP talks so much about his criminal past...in the follow up book it talks a little about it...

I wondered about this. I am not an addict, but the first thing I thought of when I heard about the embellished parts is the people who struggle with addiction who found the book inspirational.

I also read it long before the smoking gun report came out. I liked the book a great deal when I read it. I was in the middle of the second book when the report came out, and honestly, I have to say, it made me think differently about it when I was reading it, sort of what Redhead was saying.....I was reading it thinking, "so is this made up??"

Also, after reading the whole smoking gun thing, and after reading the second book, I wonder if more than the criminal record is embellished. All of the people who could verify his story from rehab, except for the federal judge, (who for obvious reasons would remain anonymous) are not available to verify the story...... (I don't want to spoil anything from the next book for anyone.)

Re: Book related - A Million Little Pieces

He actually did lie about almost all his arrests, him being wanted etc, that bothered me.

Their are a lot of people who are saying its "funny" how leaonard and Lilly are not alive and did they ever exist.

He also lied about the girl he said befriended him in high school who was hit by a train, That was an emotional part of the book and yet he never even knew that girl who died.

Whats worse is in My Friend Leonard, he talks all about his jail experince and how he befriended people, and read to them.

He never spent any time in jail, to which he has admitted. He admitted he has never spent more then 3 days in jail...That part really made me mad.

I think he admitted this to the Smoking gun. If you read the whole 9 page report (it's looong...) I think it was in there somewhere.

yes, he was interviewed and admitted he never spent more then 3 days in jail... He never did the 3 month stay he was sentanced to at the end of AMLP....

So I dont get why he spent so much time on the next book talking about it.

I would be fine with it if it were labeled fiction, because it is.

It was a good read. I was disappointed by the embellishment but enjoyed it and learned from it nonetheless.

Awesome Book! I highly recommend it! Even after all the nonsense about him embellishing the story. It is written in a totally different way and extremely engrossing!
I am about to read his next book "My Friend Leonard"

Re: Book related - A Million Little Pieces

I just read it. So many people loved it, but I only thought it was ok. It kept my attention, but I just did not think it was as amazing as everyone was talking about. I have my phd in psychology and I found that a lot of what he described seemed implausible.
