My ILs did. The way it works is the lawyer gets a portion of what they saved you the first year. You can grieve your taxes each year, as I understand it they can't go up, only stay the same or go down.

Basically you ask the town to reasses your home and see if they are charging you too much in taxes.

You can do it yourself, but you need a lot of backup, like what other homes in your area have sold for, etc. to show that your home isn't worth what the town claims it is, since that's what taxes are based off.

Most people hire one of these law firms that specialize in it. They will go to the hearings and all for you, do all the research, and try to decrease your taxes. If your taxes go down, they will charge you a percentage of what you saved the first year, and then each year after you pay the lower taxes. Until the town raises them again and you go through the whole process again.

my folks did and got it lowered, we tired and got a letter the other day stating that they were unable to get our taxes lower.

I did about 9 years ago at a previous home I lived at and they lowered my taxes about $800.
