Another question about thank you letter?

When I've gone on interviews in the past, they've called me for second interviews 2-3 days later.
I'll be going on job interviews once jury duty is done and my question is, after the initial interview, can I overnight the thank you letter? This way I'll be fresh in their minds and possibly be considered for a second interview?
I just feel that mailing a letter takes too longChat Icon

Re: Another question about thank you letter?

I agree that emails work well, always ask for the business cards of anyone and everyone you interview with. 9 out of 10 times the email address is listed there.

Re: Another question about thank you letter?

I'm iffy on the emailed thank you's. I'd just put one in the regular mail, not overnight, that looks desperate. A decision won't be made until after the 2nd interview anyway.

THANK YOU both. I also thought about emailing but, I've heard there's controversy over that.Chat Icon some people think it's not personal enough like handwriting a letter??

I think the medium used depends on the field persued...with that said, I think you need to use judgement as to which way to go.

Great article about thank you's

I would send a thank you regular mail. I don't think an email would be appreciated as much.

I dont see anything wrong with the email. I think email is easier and better. Sometimes snail mail gets lost in the general office mail systems. Hell.. I don't read my snail mail for days after it gets here. Chat Icon

Just as long as its not a "general" thank you. In the email... make sure you write specific things about that company and why you would love to work for THAT company... and you will be fine.

Make it as "personal" and "specific" to the company as you can.

Re: Another question about thank you letter?

A great excerpt from that articile pertaining to snail mail v. email
Snail Mail or E-mail?

Which medium is best for sending thank-you letters? There's no correct answer; you must use your best judgment as to which method your interviewers would prefer.

If the interviewer relies heavily on the Internet during the business day, e-mail would be the best. You want to demonstrate that you fit the corporate culture, and sending a standard letter could be considered old-fashioned.

On the other hand, if the interviewer seldom uses the Internet, e-mail could be construed as impersonal, even rude, while a standard letter would be seen as a thoughtful personal gesture.

Carefully evaluate each interviewer to determine the role the Internet plays in that person's work life. It may be obvious or take guesswork on your part. As a rule of thumb, sending regular mail is never wrong unless the employer is steeped in technology.

I agree, and in my field, an email would be acceptable, and for some people, possibly preferred.

Re: Another question about thank you letter?

My company is very big on etiquite, but they will appreciate email thank yous. However, I feel that an original, signed and mailed letter is always the best way to go! It shows that you took the time to type and send the letter. also, it is much more personal, IMHO.

I think e-mail is fine and appropriate. If you don't, I would send it via regular mail - no need to over night!

Ahhh! Be careful! Ask someone in your field if it's ok. I worked with recruiters from IB's and for some email was a no-no. Depends on the company. Some are very traditional.
