Treadmill and shin pain???

I am normally an elliptical or arc trainer kind of gal, but decided to suck it up and get over my irrational fear of the treadmillChat Icon . did 30 minutes (less than my normal cardio time) at a decent pace (3.8)and good incline (6.5 mostly), and now my right shin is killing me!!

is there anything I can do??

I would recommend a couple of advil and resting them for a day.

Also, don't do so high of an incline next time you're on the treadmill.

Chat Icon I hope you feel better soon.
Definitely take it slow when starting something new.

Sounds like shin splints. You should be doing stretching exercises before and after your workout.

The same thing has happens to me when I run at an incline I'm not used to. Try resting for a day and doing a lower incline the next time. Work yourself up to the 6.5 over a few days time. You may also want to make sure your running shoes have the right support. Chat Icon

Be careful and make sure you really stretch out your shins. The only thing that will heal shin splints if you develop them is rest, and if you workout a lot, you won't be able to heal them and will just have to deal with the pain. Happened to me. When I was training for a half marathon, I had them, and had to ice them nightly after running. Hence, I haven't run since the half marathon a year ago!

Also, make sure you're wearing the right sneakers. It helps to go to a running store and get fitted.
