How do people get on reality shows?
DH and I always wonder this. I figure some of them must be done through casting calls, but how do normal every day people find out about them?

easy - just sleep with 14 different men within the same week, then get pregnant and wonder who the father is.

Yeah, that sounds more like Springer to me!
We were just wondering how these people get on shows before anyone has even heard about them. Do people really just check different channels' websites constantly to look for shows to try out for?

Probably through agents and I am sure a lot of the same "actors/actresses" try out for all the different shows and are one some kind of circuit.

well if i must tell you I bought the Hawaii Real World book ... to find out all the dirt and there is an application in the book...I promise I did not fill it out..  i was to old... there is an age limit

The only one I've seen an application for is the Amazing Race. DH and I sent it in a few years ago and didn't get picked 
So now we boycott and don't watch anymore

I printed out the VERY LENGTHY Big Brother app after season 1 or 2 (I can't remember). I knew I could be away from DH (well, FH at the time) for 3 months but didn't think I could leave Hershey for that long!!

A friend of mine works for a cable network that is developing a new reality competition show & she said they had auditions in different cities, but not enough people showed up, b/c it was a new show.
It was an industry specific show ( like Hells Kitchen, Project Runway, etc) so I imagine they ran ads in industry magazines.
They proabably also had an ad on theoir website, eventhough people weouldnt' go looking specifially for it, b/c the show didn't exist yet, the network is well known.

DH and I want to go on that show so bad, but both of you have to be US citizens and we cant do that  .

See, now shows like this are widely-known. But it's the shows that aren't even out yet but somehow people get on them are the ones that I wonder about. Like Treasure Hunters.....they have these seemingly normal people on them (Air Force, CIA)....how did they find out about the show before it even came out?
I'm just so bitter that it's them and not me

A lot of times, people will go for open casting calls and they don't even know what they're going for. Or they go, and it's castings for a whole bunch of different reality shows and they pick and choose what they think you'd be good for.

they pass out brochures when you walk around boston for open casting to new shows -we have gotten a few but nothing that interested us ... would love to do treasure hunters
