Jim Ryan Joins CBS 2 News This Morning
Ryan, who left "GDNY" in May after 17 years, will co-anchor "CBS 2 News This Morning" (5-7 a.m.) with Price, Bosquez and Shon Gables.
He'll make his first on-air appearance Sept. 11 — helping commemorate the fourth anniversary of the attacks — and will start full-time Sept. 19.
"I came in this morning to do a promotional shoot and Dave [Price], and I said to each other, 'I can't believe this!' " Ryan told The Post yesterday.
"It's great to be back working with Dave and Mario. And I have a lot of friends here."
It's no secret that Ryan and Price were close during their time together on "GDNY." Price left that broadcast for Ch. 2, and CBS' "The Early Show," in 2003.
"I really like the idea of trying to re-create some chemistry I thought was fantastic between Dave, Mario and Jim over at Ch. 5," said Ch. 2 senior VP/news director Dianne Doctor.
"I've always been a fan of Jim's as far back as I can remember . . . and I made an inquiry a couple of years ago [about him coming over to Ch. 2] but he wasn't available.
"I kept tabs on him through various people — and having Dave and Mario here was helpful," Doctor said.
"This is a way of bringing a great person to the show, someone with a great institutional knowledge of New York."
"The chemistry works with Dave and Mario," Ryan said. "I got into trouble over at Ch. 5 for saying goodbye to Mario over the air. It'll be fun teaming with them again."
Price and Bosquez even appeared on Ryan's final "GDNY" broadcast on May 31, wishing him well.
Doctor said Ryan will do some special segments for the newscast focusing on his interests, including politics, and it's possibile he'll do a feature called "Jim Ryan's New York," focusing on quintessential New York places.
"We intend to be a very dominant player in the morning in New York City — we're serious about morning news," Doctor said.
