Random Question
Lets say someone is pregnant, but they don't know it yet (about 2-3 weeks after ovulation)... and they go in for a pap smear and exam... will the Dr. be able to see or feel if they are pregnant?

Re: Random Question
I don't know, but it's an interesting question. I'm guessing no bc even though they use a speculum (sp??) during the exam they would just see the cervix closed tight.

Yes and No. I know someone who was pregnant for 4 months before she knew it! She was getting a very light period all along! I haven't been feeling good lately (nauseous)so my co-workers were joking I must be pregnant, and then I started thinking that my period was really light this past month(and thinking about the girl I knew that was pregnant for 4 months)... and started wondering... you know how people can get you thinking and freaking out...but I just recently went to the Dr. so I was wondering if someone was indeed pregnant if the Dr. could tell. But I seriously doubt I am so don't get excited. I am like 99.9% sure I am not PG.

So when you get PG the cervix closes right away? Is that something the dr. would notice during a routine exam?

Re: Random Question
My OBGYN wouldn't even test for it unless I told them that I think I might be.

Re: Random Question
Wait a minute Julz, my doc was able to tell I was pregnant a week after I ovulated. I had a pap done thw week in between ovulationa nd my expected period and he told me he would "see me in a few weeks as an OB patient" (he also knew we were TTC). I spoke with him after it was verified that I was pregnant and he said my cervix changed color so he was able to tell. So YES! You can tell by a pap, but the doc would need to take a look at the color.

Wow very cool! So he knew before you did?

I don't think your cervix really opens until your body is preparing for labor. But as Emilian just posted the color of your cervix changes when you are pg....
I read in a "Girlfriend's Guide to PG" that husbands can tell you are pg bc the taste "down there" is different. TMI, but interesting

Re: Random Question
Would it hurt to take a pg test, just to rule out the possiblity? If you weren't ttc and your doctor weren't aware of it, it may have just been a quick, routine pap and they wouldn't have even noticed. I'd take a test to just rule out the possibility.

Yes he did, in fact I saw him at Dairy Barn and he said "told you so" since he saw my name on the appt list for the next day to confirm my pregnancy.

Re: Random Question
I think it would be a fluke if the doctor caught you being PG that early (though as the other ladies said, there ARE signs that might be noticeabl, however if your doctor wasn't looking for them I'd assume he/she would not really think you were PG or not)
If you are about 2-3 weeks past ovulation, you can definitely take an HPT to see if you were in fact PG
