Wedding Gift Question

I have a wedding for a cousin coming up this summer. When I got married he was invited and was suppose to come with his GF. A few days before my wedding they broke up and he and GF never came to my wedding or sent a gift (or even an apology). I paid for two empty seats!

What do you think would be an appropriate amount of $ for a wedding gift. Do you think I should give what I usually give at a wedding or less?

Re: Wedding Gift Question

If hell ever freezes over and the groomsmen that stiffed us completely on our wedding (btw, this is the same guy that told me he was bringing a date one week before the wedding, then showed up with no date) anyway if this guy ever finds a girl dumb enough to marry his a$$, I think I will give whatever our going rate is cut in half (which right now would mean about 200 bucks). And even that will be difficult for me. I definitely wouldn't be my usual generous self—simply because I don't deal well with rude behavior and this dude gets on my last nerve.

Re: Wedding Gift Question

I know I should probably give our usual wedding amount but it just pizzes me off. I can't forget leaving my reception with a bag of food which were the meals of the people who didn't show up! Chat Icon

Re: Wedding Gift Question

Ok, I will admit, in THIS situation, I probably wouldn't be as generous as I normally am. I can say I'd take the high road, but I know myself, my hand would certainly not agree with my head when writing the check!

This is exactaly how I feel. I can't bring myself to write the check for the full amount. Then I usually think back to the amount that the people gave me for my wedding. In this case the amont is a big fat 0!Chat Icon

Re: Wedding Gift Question

That's not a bad idea. I did already buy them a shower gift off the registry. But maybe I should have a gift sent.

I hate to admit this, but I would send my regrets (on time) and a gift off their registry.

ETA: Not because of the no show or no gift, but the no apology would stay with me.

The only thing I'm thinking is if you go and send a cheap gift his new fiance doesn't know what happened with his last girlfriend, so when she opens the card she is going to be insulted and think your cheap even though you and he know why.

Re: Wedding Gift Question

The no show after I paid would bother me more than not getting a gift.

I would probably just give what I normally do if I went to the wedding. If I was really that mad about the whole thing, I just wouldn't go to the wedding (after RSVPing that I wasn't going Chat Icon )
