Can you explain a bit more about what you are hoping for overall?
When you breastfeed "YOU" have to feed more because no one else can do it for you in the beginning. I'm not sure there are really more feedings, its just all on mom since dad doesn't lactate.

Re: can you breastfeed and formula feed from the start?
I asked the same question on here before I gave birth!
Well, I switched it up from the start...day one, in fact. I was in the hospital for 4 nights and left my daughter in the nursery for the 1am feedings...at which she received formula. I BF for every other feeding--which probably equaled 10x a day! We kept this going at home until a few months later when she was weaned completely.
Some people will tell you this won't work because of nipple confusion, etc. and I'm sure that is a factor for some, but this is what worked for me and most of my friends.

Re: can you breastfeed and formula feed from the start?
It all depends on the baby. One bottle of formula is all it took for my baby to never latch again. Other babies can go back and forth without an issue. Also, some babies do well on formula. Other babies do not. The only times Molly ever threw up or had gas issues was when I gave her formula while trying to fix my supply issues.
I would say that it is easier to get your supply up and steady for the first 4-6 weeks, then slowly introduce formula. IMO, again JMO, better safe than to lose your nursing relationship.

If you hope to have breastfeeding as a part of your feeding plan, it is best to start with only breastfeeding. Once breastfeeding is established for a few weeks you should be able to safely switch it up.
Some people are lucky and have no trouble doing both from the beginning, but if its important to you that you be able to breastfeed you are taking a risk by introducing the bottle earlier.

Re: can you breastfeed and formula feed from the start?
I personally breastfed AND bottlefed right from the beginning.....even in the hospital. I always BFd more nad only bottlefed if I thought he needed a little more, if we were out, or if someone was watching him.
I have heard that some babies have nipple confusion and it's not so easy to do both....I guess I was lucky.
