Gestational Diabetes Question

So how exactly do you NOT get it? Is it from gaining too much weight or eating too many sweets? Chat Icon I really know nothing about it. TIA!

Re: Gestational Diabetes Question

It is all pot-luck. There is nothing you can do to prevent it if you are going to get it. Thin, fat, eating candy, eating only healthy protein and organics...does not matter.
It has to do with the way your body handles the hormones in your placenta.
Once you have it, you need to do things to control it. But you can't prevent or encourage getting it.

Re: Gestational Diabetes Question

They say, if you do have gestational diabetes, you should be able to control it with diet and exercise. They say 10 to 20 percent of your calories should come from protein (meat, poultry, fish), about 30 percent from fats, and the remainder from carbohydrates (pasta, rice, fruits, and vegetables). Sweets might be limited. I try to follow a similar just in case it can prevent Gestational diabetes, although I know I don't get enough exercise. I am just so exhausted!!

FireIslandLove...you might like to hear this study...The babies born to women who had been eating chocolate daily during pregnancy were more active and "positively reactive" - a measure they were happier and less fearful babies.

So enjoy your chocolate!!!Chat Icon
