Prenatal Question
Just got back from the GYN and mentioned that I'd be TTC in the next year. She gave me some sample pre-natals to try and said to start taking them right away even though we aren't officially trying yet (and I am still on the BCP).
She gave me two kinds and I was wondering if anyone has used them and what their experiences were. She said they may make me nauseus. One is PrimaCare and the other is Citracel with some kind of stool softener in it (I don't know why?).
Any info would be appreciated!

Re: Prenatal Question
I started taking PN's about 3 weeks ago and my dr told me the same thing about nausea. He gave me a packet of samples and a script. I am still taking the samples because hey they're free. My stomach has been fine. Just remember to have breakfast - even a granola bar is fine. Just put something in your stomach.
HTH!!!

Re: Prenatal Question
She gave me two types... no prescription. I am not sure if she forgot or if she wanted me to try both and let her know which I prefer...

Good to hear. I'd rather take that then the one with the stool softener! Can I ask if you pay for it out of packet or sif your insurance covers it? If not, what does it run?

Re: Prenatal Question
I take Cal-Nate (prescription - I think its similar to Citracel) and I fill it monthly, just like BC and it costs me $10 with my coverage.

My doctor put me on prenatals a year before TTC but they made me sick so I was taking flinstones and folic acid 400mg for about 8 months and then began prenatals for 2 months before I got PG. I cant tell you glad I am that I started the prenatals BEFORE getting PG- its better to have your body adjust to them before all your hormones go nuts when your PG.

I took those while preggo and the taste made me gag. My dr. told me to just go back to the over the counter CVS ones until I was preggo again.

My doctor said she prefers the prescription ones cuz she knows whats in them. I haven't started yet..

Re: Prenatal Question
I am the Citracal one - I have been taking it for a month now and have had no problems. I have IBS and it hasn't made my problem any worse
I see a lot of the pregnant ladies on here complaining of constipation so one with a stool softener might come in handy as prenatals can make some people constipated.
