Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? ours looks out the back-I like it in the summer but in my townhouse I could see the street & driveway & that was convenient.
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? yes it does & I don't like them, grew up in a neighborhood with underground wires & it looks nicer
sidewalks? nope-it annoys the hell out of my DH that suffolk isn't big on the sidewalks-he's a valley stream boy.
how many exterior doors does your house have? we have 4, when we add the basement entrance it will be five...I really have no idea why we need so many doors.
do you have a cesspool or sewers? we have a cesspool, which I never had before & I'm always afraid something will go wrong with it.
well water or "city" water? we have well water which I love, its tasty & practically free
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? we are in between 25 & 25A and 5 minutes from william floyd, most people don't consider those major roads though
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? I love living close to riverhead-the shopping is so good now & all the stores are new & the people are nice & I love our lake.
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? for me the trade was doubling my commute time so we could live in a more rural community & not be house poor.

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
Dh is finishing painting the hallway, so I'll bite!
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? Front, but we hope to build up "one day" and move the kitchen to the back with sliding glass doors.
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? Yes, but they are in the back.
sidewalks? Yes, that was important to us.
how many exterior doors does your house have? 3
do you have a cesspool or sewers? cesspool...we're nervous about that too...
well water or "city" water? city water, but we had a filter put in.
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? Yes, we are right near 3 parkways, and a bunch of major roads.
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? We love the shopping and all the restaurants. Plus, its close to where I grew up, so it really feels like home.
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? Yes, we went for a smaller house in what we felt was a better neighborhood.

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? We have a window over the sink that looks onto the side yard and sliding doors that look into the back, which I love.
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? I don't know! Weird, huh? I do see a lot of wires, now that I'm looking.
sidewalks? No, and I don't mind that. It would just be another thing to shovel!
how many exterior doors does your house have? Two- in front and in back.
do you have a cesspool or sewers? Sewers, I think.
well water or "city" water? Good question- I live near the reservoirs that supply NYC with its drinking water, but I don't think that is where our water comes from. It tastes different.
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? Yep, we live five minutes from I-84.
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? Ironically, we live in the "sticks" compared to where I grew up (Levittown) and where I spent most of my 20s (Queens). But I have never lived so close to a mall, a train station, the DMV or a hospital! We also have a water view, which I love.
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? My commute to the Bronx is much, much longer but it's a nicer ride in terms of scenery and traffic. We also live over an hour from friends and family. But we got more for our money here, and it's quieter and more rural. I like that.

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? The kitchen window looks out the back, but since we knocked the wall around the kitchen down and put an island instead, I can see out the front door and big living room window from the kitchen.
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? Yes. Where I grew up the telephone poles were in the front along the street. Where I live now the poles are in the backyard.
sidewalks? No. I don't care either way though.
how many exterior doors does your house have? 3, but one is for an apartment.
do you have a cesspool or sewers? Cesspool
well water or "city" water? City water, but I only drink bottled or filtered anyway.
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? Yes, we are in a neighborhood between 25 (Middle Country Road) and 347 and close to Nichols road, which leads to the LIE.
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? Well, I live only 5 minutes from my job which is great. I have plenty of time to come home for lunch. Also we are only about 15 minutes from most of our family and close to many things... mall, shopping centers, library, hospital, colleges.
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? We moved a little east from where we grew up. We saved alot of money by doing this, got more house for our money, cheper taxes, closer to our jobs, but moved into a worse SD and farther from the beach... but still we are close to our familys and friends..only about 15 minutes away. So it evens out.

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? Back of house
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? Polls, but I'm used to that. It's what we had growing up!
sidewalks? Nope, which I actually like b/c it's one less thing to shovel and we don't have to worry about "slip and fall sues".
how many exterior doors does your house have? I think 5, the previous owners were a little wacky.
do you have a cesspool or sewers? Cesspool, makes me a little nervous, too!
well water or "city" water? I think it's well.
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? We're also between 25 & 25A but we're pretty close to Northern State, too. I'm not used to having to travel so far to the parkway. Growing up the Southern was in back of us!
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? I love being 5 minutes from Northport Village and having so many things within walking distance (library, post office, video store, convenience store, etc.)
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? Yes, we bought a fixer-upper and ended up spending a bit more on it. But the most important thing to us was the location so we chose to buy a house that needed a lot of work as long as we were in the area and SD we wanted and as long as the house had lots of potential.
ETA: spelling!

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? Back. I don't like Kitchens in the front of the house
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? no. All wires are buried
sidewalks? No sidewalks and the mailbox is on the street, which I'm not a big fan of.
how many exterior doors does your house have? 4
do you have a cesspool or sewers? we have a cesspool. I gre up in Nassau and would prefer a sewer.
well water or "city" water? "City" water
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? we are in between 25 & 25A and 5 minutes from Sunken Meadow,
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? We have town land behind us so no neighbors in the back. We also like being near the IL's and an old historic town and a great school district.
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? 1/2 basement instead of full. We didn't have to move as we already owned a smaller house so we weren't willing to compromise all that much on our second home.

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? ours looks out to the back. I love looking out back to the deck and yard. It's also very woodsy, we have no neighbors in the rear of our house. We have a huge 6-ft window in the kitchen looking out back, and the adjacent dining room has frech door opening to the deck.
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? yes it does & I don't like them. They are on the opposite sidew of the street though
sidewalks? nope-and I'm in Nassau! I hate it because Andrew will never be able to ride his bike up and down the street, but then again, its a lot less we have to shovel in hte winter!
how many exterior doors does your house have? 3: front door, back door in kitchen, french doors to back deck off dining room. Our lower level in built half underground, so the only entrance to the outside form the lower level is through the garage.
do you have a cesspool or sewers? again, one of the few, if only, town in Nassau with cesspools and I hate it. I long to be a sewer girl
well water or "city" water? we get our water from the Jericho water district
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? its very woodsy my area, but we are off Rt. 106 and 1/2 mile north of Rt. 25A (Northern Blvd.) We are about 5-6 miles north of the LIE and Northern State Parkway.
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? Nothing is really close, but I love the area, it can be secluded if you want with out being in the middle of nowhere.
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? we moved from the south shore to the north shore, so we just ended up ebing farther away from where we were both living

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? Looks to the side and the back, I like it because it faces south and west and when we update the windows we're putting in a garden bay. I can't wait!
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? yes it does but not on our side of the street or near our yard so we're very happy with that.
sidewalks? Yes, and with a double plot it's a pain in the arse to shovel, can't wait for my inlaws to move to FL and give us their snowblower.
how many exterior doors does your house have? we have 3.
do you have a cesspool or sewers? Sewers
well water or "city" water? City wuth a whole house filter in the basement.
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? Close to major roads but about 15 minutes from parkways.
is there something special or a perk or convenience near your home that you love? Love the "small town" feeling. Easy commute to NYC even thought we're over 40 miles away. Great commuity, and super close to the beach!
Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? We decided to buy a cape when originally we wanted a colonial but we fell in love with the house and the huge yard.

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
does your kitchen look out the front or back of your house? towards the back
does your neighborhood have telephone polls? We do have the polls but the wires to the house is mixed. Some have right to the house others have it burried. When you have the house built you need to specify how you want. Most people forget to mention so majority have the wires right to the house.
sidewalks? whats that???? No sidewalks where I am.

do you have a cesspool or sewers? we have cesspool
well water or "city" water? well water. One day we'll be hooked up to city water.
Is your house easily accessible to major roads? I am about 5 min to the highway and about 10 min to US 41

Re: Random Poll because I'm so bored
My kitchen looks out the front of the house and I like that...it was one of the things I liked about the house.
Yes we have telephone poles, but I don't really think about them.
We have no sidewalks, very few towns in Suffolk do.
We have two doors to the great outdoors. Front door and Back door.
We have a cesspool, but I am really not worried about it...worse case scenario, you get it pumped. BTW, again most of Suffolk is cesspools, very few sewers.
City water, I guess, we pay SCWA for our water.
We are literally just off the expressway. It's great for commuting, two minutes and I'm on 495.
I love living in the "sticks" as my Nassau friends and family like to call it. I can walk my dog and see deer, totally worth being here.
The tradeoff is we ended up buying much further east than we had planned and have to commute to work.

Did you make any "trade-offs" when selecting your home? Yep. It's not the style of home we wanted. We both would have preferred a colonial.
