some bad news...
Hello everyone..
DH and I put in a bid for a house last week and teh couple accepted. They wanted us tos ecure the house by bringing in an engineer and a binder. We did both.. and then THIS week, they call to tell us they have another bidder that came in 10k higher than us... what is going on??? The seller is the real estate agent on the house.. we weren't sure if they were fibbing or if this really happened... the real estate agent was supposed to call my dh back about whether they were going to keep our bid or go with the other one. THe thing is, they were asking a certain price for the house and we cam in lower. They never said anything last week about getting more money.. so, we wasted our time..
OUr real estate agent was so bad at the seller.... i know most people do this, but the seller never called us back today, so we decided to withdraw our bid... I really loved the house but didn't like the games..
Sorry-had to vent!!  feel better now!!
any advice or words of wisdom would be great!!

it happened to us too. what we did was asked to see a copy of the other offer so that we could be sure that it was real and that the seller was not f---ing us over. it was sooooo bad. it was for 10,000 too. we outbid the other offer by 500 and got the house. it really left a horrible taste in my mouth and took a huge dent out of our furniture budget.

if they decided to accept another offer they need to reimburse you for the money you paid to the engineer!!!

i am sure you are...
I haven't even gotten to the point where there is a house i want to bid on...But when i do and if this happened i would be extremely discouraged.
But like everyone says...this kinda thing happens for a reason and YOUR house is still out there waiting to be found!
As for me same ole same ole....I think i am driving my realtor nuts! 
Went to see a bunch of houses last weekend. I did like a high ranch in centereach but it was a good 10 mins from the LIE...And exit 62 is already another 10 from where i am now. So to add 20 mins to my commute bothered me a lot (i work in Queens).
So i am continuing to look

Sorry to hear that - we went through the same thing!! I think it happens all the time, unfortunately!!!!!
In our case, we loved the house, they accepted the offer, we had the house inspected, were ready to go to closing and they called and said they got an offer 40,000 higher, they offered us to counter, we walked, the other people were to compensate us for the inspection no problem, we got a call back some weeks later that the other people's mortgage fell through - and we are happy homeowners of that house since May!!
Sometimes it works out

I was shocked to learn that this could happen in NY until you close. In CT once you sign the contract they can't accept other bids or decide not to sell to you without a financial penatly. It ***** here! Sorry it happened to you.

The binder is to stop showing the house and the contract can be broken BUT who ever break the agreement I think is responsible to pay I know in my agreement if either of us backed out we would lose 12,500
