Re: Do you think customer service still exists?

Sometimes, but it's hit or miss. I find that when I need to deal with CS I am surprised when things do go well.

But I think there are also situations where people try to take advantage of a store's policies, and I think people tend to complain about CS when they're in the wrong and still don't get their way.

Re: Do you think customer service still exists?

Sometimes.

The COO of my company told me a CS story that he had recently experienced. It was with Dell. He ordered a new computer and a specific brand of speakers. Dell shipped everything but the speakers. He called them to say hey the speakers werent in the box. Dell apologized and said this was our fault and we will overnight you this brand. It's the upgraded version of the speakers you ordered.

A co-worker of mine is dealing with Social Security and she literally came into work crying saying they were incredably mean to her and made her feel like an idiot. The CS person said to her "listen lady I told you this 3 times what are you not understanding" She was devestated that someone could treat another person that way.

I am the customer service supervisor and it is so hard to compromise with someone who is so angry about a product. Or people who have no concept of travel. It's even harder to talk to someone who feels the need to scream at you and make demands. Some peopel just dont understand what "rate is subject to change and availability", "non-refundable" and "non-trandferable" means. Someone asked me what time the midnight buffet was on their cruise. Another person asked me if Amtrak went to Hawaii.

When you hear things like that you really want to scream at the person to buy a clue.

Re: Do you think customer service still exists?

sometimes. I work in CS, and I can tell you that Im SHOCKED at how I hear some of my co-workers talk to the members. I know I always think what would I want to hear, have done, but thats mainly because I work in it and think.

It takes a REAL strong person who cares to work in CS and some people just cant do it and so they dont care about you..point blank...

At the same time, I have been annoyed, almost rude to some people.
People will call and say I got a bill...They have no phone #, no date, no information but then get mad at ME when I cant help them.. Sorry no help can be given to some people who dont THINK first.

Overall I think Customer service is really hit or miss, and mostly miss.

Re: Do you think customer service still exists?

i agree. I worked in customer service at waldbaums in HS (yeah, i know, 17 year old in CS maybe wasn't the best idea..)

But anyways... Some of the other people in CS were nasty... but i honestly think that they got that way from some of the customers... People would scream at me and curse at me because they read the signs wrong.

I would try to be as pleasant as possible, but I had some people that were so nasty! They actually led to me crying.

I really think that everyone should have to work in some sort of customer service job as a requirement for being an adult. Chat Icon

I think it's hit or miss though. I know I go some places and people are so nice, and then i'll go to others (like when i went to look at wedding dresses at one department store) where the people who worked there acted like I was bothering them for even existing.

It really does take a strong person who cares to be in CS. You often have to be thick skinned as well.

I have actually said to someone "I cant help you if you dont help me"

CS is tough!
