replacing tub and tile in bathroom?

I'm sure this cost varies greatly, but has anyone just replaced their tub and updated the tile in the shower area (the rest of the walls in the bathroom are sheetrock) of the bathroom?

I have NO idea how much this will cost - we have an acrylic tub now but I want to see how much a porcelain tub would be. Any ideas on price?

There was just a post about this with several pics. We're going to take the recommendation and see if we can do our ugly pink tub this coming spring. Let me see if I can find the post for you.

My dh is a contractor and he said the tub should be about $500 (just the tub, not someone installing it) and the tile all depends on what you pick. He said tile could be a little as .60cents to $20 per tile.

Trish - thanks - I tried a search here and found that thread, but I don't want to reglaze our tub, we need it actually replaced with a brand new one.

Let me know how the contractor is with you though - we may call our kitchen guy but otherwise we don't have anyone yet.


my3boys - thanks! Is the $500 for an acrylic tub I guess? I figured porcelain would be a lot more $$$. I can't imagine spending $20 per tile! We won't be going too nuts on this - it's not that formal of a bath

We did the tub and tiles around it and the floor but my Dad did all the work and the materials were around $1200 if I remember correctly.

We are redoing our bathroom now, I think you can get a tub for a couple hundred, and the tiles we picked are very pretty and were about $1 each, you probably can spend like $50-$100 for tile depending on what size tile you pick. Labor might be like $500-$1,000
