Sex of the Baby

I have a friend who says she found out the sex in her 4th month of pregnancy... I thought they couldn't "officialy" find out the sex until 20 weeks... I'm am completely and utterly confused!

Re: Sex of the Baby

When I went for my ultrascreen at 13 weeks my dh was joking with the tech about it being a boy and she said I wouldn't be so sure but that was it because they can't say anything.. But in some of my books they do say the sex is evedent I believe as early and 15-16 weeks, I guess with each week that passes the % can go up a bit more...

I found out at 14 weeks that it was a boy. Techs dont like to say that early, only because sometimes they can be wrong. But i work in radiology so the girls were scanning me weekly. And believe me at 14 weeks his pee pee was so obvious!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Sex of the Baby

I found out at 15 weeks....

technically the gender CAN be determined as early as 12 weeks, that is when the sex organs are forming. The doctors prefer the sono techs wait till 20 weeks to be more sure of what they see.

Re: Sex of the Baby

At 12 wks when I had my Ultrascreen, my doctor took a look (after I asked her to) and guessed what it was by what she saw - but she said it really was too early so I shouldn't bank on what she said.

I think most people find out what the sex is at 20 weeks because that's when they have their level II sono. Some women find out earlier if they have an amnio too.

Re: Sex of the Baby

We found out at 12 weeks by the doctor who read the sono.. it was a boy.... At that early stage they can tell if it is a boy... HOwever we confirmed it at our 20 weeks just to be on the safe side...
