Grad School & Kids
is anyone currently going or went to college/grad school either PG or with kids? i'm thinking of doing an executive MBA but this throws off our expected timeline for having kids etc. so i'm curious to hear your experiences. thanks!

Re: Grad School & Kids
I am TTC, and today precisely I have a meeting about going into a Master's Program.... it is so that I can have a different career when I have kids -- and I figure if I start studying now, I will finish when he/she/they (!!) are starting school...
I want to Teach ESL.

Re: Grad School & Kids
I am in an executive doctoral program and it is incredibly intensive. I can't imagine doing it PG or with kids. There are people with teen children, but none with small children. Ours also meets on the weekends so between class and work I have not had a day off in 25 days, and each day has been at least 8:30-5:30. I cannot imagine doing that PG.

yeah thats what i'm afraid of and expecting it would be like esp bc missing work on fridays for the program might mean later nights the rest of the week. i would imagine that stress would be too tiring and not be good for PG.

Re: Grad School & Kids
I was 6 weeks pregnant when I finished my MBA. Even that early in the pregnancy it was tough. I went at night and was exhausted by the time I commuted home. Now that my baby is 3 months old I could not imagine going to school at the same time. Between work and lack of sleep I don't think I woould be able to do it. If you have a strong support system and people are willing to help you out a great deal with the baby then I guess it is possible. Good luck!

Re: Grad School & Kids
i am finishing up my second grad degree, after deciding i didn't want to stay with a mpa and going back to be a teacher. Going to school (and if you are wokring too, which i did both times!) is very time consuming - I planned my wedding whiile working f/t and going to school f/t - looking back i realize it was too much and even wish i had spaced my time better; i can only imagine it owuld 1,000x more with kids and so we are waiting. Because i now have to get a tenure track job, i think our timeline is thrown off even further.....but i'd ratyher wait and be able to spend the time than overstress either dh or i.

I finished my masters in reading while I was pregnant....but I was only 3 months, so I didn't even show...even though I was exhausted all the time. But I did it!!

Re: Grad School & Kids
Im torn between going back to school to be an RN or for my MAsters...either way we are actively TTC so I more then likly have kids before I finish as well as working F/T. BUT I do wanna finish school before I have kids in school because thats when you get busy with all the extra stuff etc. I can leave a baby or a toddler home with DH or our parents but not really a 7-8 yr old ya know? I feel like they need more attention with school work, sports etc..
