Teachers -- post pics of your classrooms!

I took some pics of my classroom when I went in there today. It still looks so stark to me because I'm used to it getting filled up with tons of charts and the student's work -- but I know htat I have almost everything up that I am required to have.

I still have to put up my ABC Chart and put the kids name tags on their desks. I also need to do some work on my back math bulletin board and you'll see now that it's basically empty but I do have the number grid on it.

I have to say that I am sick of moving my classroom (have moved 4 times in 4 years of being at my school!) but am glad I took the extra time to do it right this year. My closets and writing center/paper selection areas are all very organized and I re-did the majority of my filing cabinet also. I am also very glad that I used a very large area for my word wall since it is something that I don't think is always utilized so much and has been the case in the past.

I would love a bookshelf or two more and wish I didn't have a small oddly shaped room, but am overall very happy with how it came out.

Thanks Chat Icon I teach 1st and 2nd grade Special Ed. I'll have 12 students which is why it's a small room!

Re: Teachers -- post pics of your classrooms!

WOW! That looks so great and colorful!!! My classroom is soooo tiny! I only have seven kids in my class. I will more than likely get an 8th student soon. I teach special ed. The highlight of my year will be when I get my dry-erase board - I color code everything! My students dont start until the week after next, but I'll take pictures next week during orientation!

ETA: My class is smaller than that - waaay smaller than that!

Wow...you must teach in LI. In Queens (where I used to teach), Special Ed classrooms were literally in converted storage closets...so sad. The classroom your in now, that was the size of my 2nd grade classroom...and I had 30 students!

You did a GREAT job! Enjoy your year!

Actually I do teach in the city -- I teach in Bushwick, Brooklyn. However it is a fairly new school. It was built in 1997 so the classrooms are a good size and there is good storage. I am on the 2nd floor which has great storage -- on th first floor it isn't as good.

My room is still a disaster, but here goes. I will have 28 first graders. I totally have to organize my library since I moved it and before school ended, I bought a ton of books through scholastic. I had to clean it majorly too since the teacher who had it before me retired and left EVERYTHING which has its pros and cons.

Melissa, your room is gorgeous!

Funny, when I was looking around my room on Friday, I was thinking, would it be silly for me to post pics of my room on LIF? Chat Icon I am pretty happy with how it came out. This was the first classroom I had to set up since '03 because I was a literacy coach for two years (though I did teach a class last year) and I felt "rusty." Chat Icon

Melissa, the room looks great!

I will post pics of my room tomorrow. I'm very proud of itChat Icon My good friend is the art teacher, so we're going to be painting a mural on my back wall, other than that being blank right now, I'm inlove with my roomChat Icon Chat Icon I'm trying to make it as appealing as possible so I feel happy when I walk in it every morning. I made a gigantic collage of pictures of JT and I and Ava behind my desk. The kids haven't seen me since before I had Ava, so I know they'll be excited to see pictures. I also painted one of my bookcases with all music themes on it. It looks really cool.
I work in an old estate house, so I just have the coolest classroom ever. I have a marble fireplace and these gorgeous built-in shelves and beautiful crown molding. Too bad they painted everything that ugly school-green colorChat Icon
