How much notice for a rent increase?
Just wondering if there is a rule for how much notice you need to give a tenant before there rent is increased. I've been searching online but can't seem to find anything....I thought it should be at least 30 days.

what type of rental agreement do you have? usually it is specified in the contract.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, my old landlord just sort of told me when I gave the current month, that next month they would be raising it. I had no lease.

Without a lease, I'm pretty sure it's at the landlord's discretion.

Re: How much notice for a rent increase?
when we had our apt, we had a month to month lease and our rent was raised $50 by the next month and then another $50 the following month. So in the matter of 5 weeks our rent went up $100!! But, considering what we paid, and what we are paying for a mortgage I should have been grateful!!!

They don't have to give you any notice if you don't have a lease.
Thats the whole point of having a lease... to have notice.
If you are on a month to month basis... and they raise your rent... if you don't want to pay the increase... you can probably pay the old rent for one more month as they start the eviction process.
