question about Braxton Hicks/cramps
I'm 36w3d and I'm not 100% sure I'm even experiencing BH. I do often feel crampy on and off, but I'm not sure I notice the whole stomach tightening that I always hear about. Do you think I'm haviong BH or maybe something else?

Re: question about Braxton Hicks/cramps
I also get crampy pretty frequently. I think the BH are different though. You may be getting them and not realizing. For me, it is not my whole stomach that gets hard, it is just a part. Sometimes it is the top, but lately they have been happened a lot lower, like almost by my pelvis. When I feel the tightness there, I don't feel it from the outside like I do at the top of my stomach.
Hope that makes some kind of sense.

Re: question about Braxton Hicks/cramps
For me it was my whole belly getting hard. It was like my own little basketball. It wasn't painful - more like an involuntary muscle spasm that lasted for awhile.

I really don't think I have that? I do get hard spots, but I think it's just the baby stretching. Maybe I just haven't been having BH.

that is exactly how I would describe my Braxton Hicks.. my entire belly tightens and it gets hard as a rock when you feel it from the outside.. as Barb said it is not painful at all, just like a muscle cramp/spasm..
For me the cramps feel more uncomfortable than the Braxton Hicks!
I've read that not everyone gets Braxton Hicks though. I know that I really did not get them this frequently until recently...

This is exactly what they feel like. Real contractions feel like this too but way more painful and usually come from the back to the front.

Re: question about Braxton Hicks/cramps
BH's actually made my stomach contort - that's how strong they were. But they were like that my entire pregnancy. It also felt like 30 seconds of tightening...

Re: question about Braxton Hicks/cramps
i have the cramps too and the contractions. I think the cramps are more painful and when DH asks me whats wrong I just say its a contraction to make it simple.

Re: question about Braxton Hicks/cramps
I think you would know by now if it was BH. When I first started getting them I barely noticed but then they became unmistakable. They don't hurt at all but your stomach just gets hard as rock.
The cramps are probably mild contractions or your body's way of getting ready for labor since real contractions are much more similar to cramps than BH.
So in other words don't worry if you aren't having BH contractions because it sounds like your body is prepping for labor in other ways (the cramps).
