repost from home- does anyone have a white/ivory/natural colored couch? (w/ pic)
how does it hold up?
im about to invest in a jennifer convertibles white twill slipcovered couch.
i love it soooo much im just scared its going to look dirty all the time 
if anyone has one, or owns the specific couch im talking about - the "chatham" couch - id love to hear your experience with it

I do not have white couches now, but have owned them in the past... I LOVE, LOVE the look and as long as you dont have kids, they hold up... I had mine scotch guarded and used Ivory Soap (someone at work told me about it) to get the everday stains out.....
They are high maintenance, but again, I love the classic, elegant look of white...

But other than the dog hair, it's held up well.

I love the look of a white couch but I could never have one for a few reasons ( besides the fact that I have a toddler)
If it is for a formal LR then I say go for it. But if it is for an everyday LR where it will get alot of use.. I would say no. I would be anal and annoying everytime DH or company sat on it. I wouldn't want to feel like I couldn't eat, drink, etc. on my sofa... to me thats silly. I go more for comfort then look when it comes to something I use all the time.

My sister had one. It looked nice for about a year or two. Then it started to just look shabby and dirty AND my sister is a clean freak. I swear everytime someone sat on the couch I saw my sister twitch. She got rid of it after she had kids, it was a losing battle.

im thinknig of throwing a throw on it when we sit on it while eating
its just hubby and i - its for our downstairs den. we want it to look light and bright in there - not dark and basement like if you get what i mean
plus i think white looks sooo crisp

My cousin had a white couch and she got rid of it, she said you have to watch even what color fabric touches. One thing she said she was surprised about it is that it shows every piece of lint and she had to watch because even wearing jeans the color of the jeans can sometimes rub off on the couch.

I have a very light colored beige couch. It's held up well for the year that we have had it. But we don't have kids or pets, so I don't know how it will be once we have those. And my DH is obsessively clean so we have a VERY clean apartment.
So far so good though. Sorry don't have pic.

We have a light beige sectional & it has held up nicely. We do not have kids or pets though! I love the look of a white couch, but I would be way too afraid of stains

I have a butter-colored couch with slipcovers in our formal LR. I love that I can take them off and wash them in the machine with woolite. I have them a year and only had to wash it once when my kitty had an "accident". Our LR is formal and we only use it maybe once a week.

this is what I was going to mention, my mom had a throw on it that had some red in the decorations, when she took it off to wash, it had turned the couch pink whereever the red part touched. She was so mad b/c she had even picked up the throw a few times to make sure nothing was rubbing off, but couldnt tell until she took the whole thing off.

I have a light beige leather sectional and with a dog who is allowed on the couch... it is impossible to keep clean. It wouldnt be too bad if it was just me and DH using it but when we get a new couch someday I will definitely go with a darker color.

We have an off white couch and I love it. We have had it almost 3 years and so far so good. We dont have any kids but we do have pets.

My couch is celery color. Rather light color and it makes the room look brighter and bigger. Even though the dog sleeps on it, it's holding up extremely well.

I have a beige couch and it is a mess! DH likes to eat PBJ sandwiches late at night when he's half esleep and has had too many "accidents."
I'll probably get it steam cleaned soon. We've only had it for 6 months! DOH!

While I also think white looks crisp, clean and streamlined, I would never invest in one for my den / tv area. In there we have a dark paisley which I think will be able to better withstand the test of time 
I would only put white or cream in a room where people would rarely sit - I am actually considering using it in my living room because it is more "for show". Good luck with your decision!!!

Also, if you paint the walls a bright color, I think you would be able to get away with a darker piece of furniture (I really like sage green and aqua blue) without it looking dreary!

I've had two beige couches and both were fine. I usually have a throw on the seat when it's just the two of us and I turn the cushions over quite a bit. plus, all of it is washable.
