feeling guilty ...

the christening for Chat Icon is august 27 and i cannot wait BUT i am dreading everyone touching/wanting to hold DS that day. i feel guilty saying NO to people but i'm just not comfortable with him being passed around like a hot potato. i am especially uncomfortable w/ my 14 yr old step-son holding him and DH's parents, as well.

is it ok to say no? how do i say it 'tactfully'? i really don't care what my in-laws think/say of me to begin with (since we're not close anyway) BUT i just don't want to cause any trouble/stress that day for DH.

what do you think?

Truthfully, I think you are being a bit selfish. You want people to come and celebrate your son's christening without being able to hold him? I don't really think there is a tactful way to say no.

Maybe you should make the Christening later, so you will be more comfortable will others holding him.

Re: feeling guilty ...

I have to agree with Michelle.
Just suck it up for one day - friends and family are going to want to touch and hold your baby - especially the day of his christening - its inevitable.

It really won't be as bad as your expecting. I was holding my daughter when she was tired or feeding her - and besides then - she was with my huabnd and held by immediate family - i wouldn't say she was tossed around - but everyone did want to see her and kiss her.

I was actually happy to see her interact with other people - and the end of the night - i knew she was coming home with me - and whenever she is uncomfortable - she wants to jump in my arms anyway - try not to stress over it. everything will be fine.

have a great timeChat Icon

The family knows to wash their hands before touching DD... Perhaps you can enforce the same...

Its good for babies to be handled by different people, its also good for them to be exposed to things...so just suck it up and pass the kid around for a day! He won't rememer being passed around when he is 18 and believe it or not, neither will you!!!

Re: feeling guilty ...

I don't mind when DD is passed around, as long as everyone washes their hands. I am with her pretty much everyday and welcome the break. At my DD's baby dedication she was passed around to relatives and everyone thought it was great! I love that she has so many people in her life that love her and us.
