When did you tell your parents?
I went to a family wedding yesterday and managed to not tell anyone. Although I had some funny looks b/c I wasn't drinking (and I love to some cocktails at family functions). I used the ole "I have the runs" excuse. So now I'm not sure if they bought it or not.
Anyway I'm only 4 weeks and not sure at what point I should tell just my parents and IL's.
When did you?
Thanks!

Re: When did you tell your parents?
I basically told everyone after I went for a sonogram and saw the heartbeat. That was at 7 weeks. A lot of people wait until after the 1st trimester but I couldn't hold out.

Re: When did you tell your parents?
I told my parents at around 4 weeks, right after I got 2 BFP's. I wanted to hold out until I saw the doctor, but he doesn't see me until I am 7 weeks along, so I decided not to wait. Of course, now tons of people know. I wanted to wait at least until we had a hearbeat before everyone knew, but no one can seem to keep a secret. I am almost 6 weeks, so just another week until I see the doctor.
Congrats!!

Re: When did you tell your parents?
Since I had complications in the beginning we decided to tell our parents at 5 1/2 weeks. Just in case I needed some support if things didn't work out. Everyone else, we didn't tell until I was 11 weeks.

Re: When did you tell your parents?
The first time around I told my parents the seocnd I got off the phone with the doctor...well of course I told DH first. the second time we waited till me made it past our 8 week mark. It was hard to hide from my sister, because yes, everytime I go to my parents I awlasy have a beer with my ssiter and I didnt, so I told her I was taking the meds and could NOT drink.

Re: When did you tell your parents?
About five minutes after I saw the second pink line JT's parents, on the other, we waited about 3 or 4 weeks.

Re: When did you tell your parents?
We told our parents as soon as I got a BFP on my HPT. It was early but I didn't care, we wanted them to know bc we had been trying for a long time and were so excited.

I told my mom and sister at about 5 weeks and then the rest of the family, both sides, at about 7 weeks.

This is exactly what we did. We wanted our families' support just in case something happened.

Thanks ladies!! I'm so torn between picking up the phone right now or waiting until they confirm it's not ectopic and possibly even until I hear a heartbeat.

Charly - it is a personal choice. IMHO, I wanted my family to be there for us if it was ectopic or if I had a miscarriage; I could not imagine my DH & I going through something like that alone. We thought of it like this, the more people praying for us to have a healthy pregnancy and baby the better.

Re: When did you tell your parents?
We are having a really hard time keeping a secret, but we are waiting until 10-11 weeks (hopefully hear a heartbeat by then). The reason is that our families have no idea we were even thinking of TTC so we have minimal pressure at the moment. And we like it that way.
The second anyone knows it will be all intense. If something goes wrong and I m/c it will be a big production with gossip about my work hours etc. We are in the medical field and have seen it so many times we almost expect it and would be happier mourning with just each other.
I love her, but my mom especially will drive me crazy with advice etc (she smoked and drank throughout the pregnancy) and I am really mad at her right now for smoking again.
Long answer but kindof a vent too...

Re: When did you tell your parents?
The first time around I told my parents at 6 weeks and the second time around we we're gonna wait until the end of the first trimester, but FH's mother figured it out at 8 weeks and told everyone (I guess I was really bad at hiding it).

Re: When did you tell your parents?
We told our parents as soon as we got our postive, but we wanted to hold off on telling family until 12 weeks. my MIL told the entire family within a week of finding out- even though she had been told not to. The only one in my family who knows is my aunt, everyone else will find out in a couple of weeks. I'm 9 weeks now.
