constipation in my little Justin

I would like to know if any of you mothers have had experience with constipation in their newborn. If so, what did you do to help the baby with their discomfort and to get them to go regularly on their own?? any advice is a BIG help, my little one is in soo much pain at times and I cant stand it.

My daughter was constipated...when I took her to the Dr. she told me to give her 1 once of water to 1 once of prune juice. I would call the Dr though just to be safe

my Dr. suggested almost the same thing , she said to give him 1/4 ounce of prune juice everyday. How old was your daughter when she had to do this, and how long did it take to start to help them???

My daughter was about 8 weeks old when she had this problem...it worked right away. My Dr. told me just to add it in her daily diet. I now give it to her about every other day and she is 5 months.

I just wanted to send It is so hard when they are in pain and constipated. Claire just started having this problem recently (6-7 months) and the doctor suggested prune juice daily. We have been giving her baby food prumes which help. It just breaks my heart when she is in pain and I cant help.....

when my son started to get this when we started cereal, we just gave him prunes every other day as his fruit...he was EBF so he never had it earlier than about 6 months...but I believe I was also told prune juice/water

thank you ladies, my son is 5 weeks old and he has a set of pipes on him. I just started the prune juice yesterday and he has started to pass gas more frequently, i am still waiting for him to move his bowels on his own though. So for right now, if I feel he is in too much pain I stimulate his rectum and he goes. He has such a look of relief on his face. I had the same problem with my daughter when she was a baby. Me and my constipated children. If it doesnt get better over the weekend I will end up taking him back to the Dr.

I had a rough time that at about 5-6 weeks. I tried using the rectal thermometer here and there to see if that would help - nothing. Then I tried 1oz of prune juice and an ounce of water everyday for over a week - nothing but constipation. I felt so bad for him. Finally, i talked to the dr about changing his formula to something else to rule that out and we did and he has been a much happier baby since. My baby was also colic and has mild reflux so the change of formula was warranted for more than just constipation.
