Teachers- In Service classes for the summer?
Does anyone know any good (and cheap-er) in-service classes being offered during the summer? I want to complete my MA +30 over the summer, and I need to do 15 in-service... TIA

Re: Teachers- In Service classes for the summer?
I'm taking two NYSUT classes, 3 credits each. 15 in one summer seems like a LOT, but I guess it's possible! Not sure about the "cheapness" factor, but they're about $625 per class (does your district pay for any classes?). Supposedly there are some other places that offer classes that aren't as much work as NYSUT classes, but I like the location of the classes through NYSUT. I know some people go through the College of St. Rose and the Long Island Institute (LIPS).

If you're a NYC teacher, go to www.nyaspdp.org and the courses are about $150 + $50 reg. fee.

I'm not a teacher but am thinking of becoming one -
Just a question regarding these classes:
are they like regular college classes? are they from regionally accredited schools? they count toward the "MA/MS + 30"?

basically, 15 hours = 1 credit - so timewise it is like a college class.
some classes you can take at "regular" colleges. most, you take through a vendor who deals with in-service classes (SCOPE, New York Center for teacher Development).
my district requires approval of all classes, before we enroll - so they only use a few vendors.

Just wanted to add that the price I quoted was for GRAD credits -- it's less for inservice. Here's the liips website: http://www.liips.org/
