Re: painting a room...what
you should repair all nail holes, sand those areas, tape off things that you don't want to paint with painters tape, cover the floors & furniture, prime & then paint.

Re: painting a room...what
What is the condition of the walls? Are there holes or nicks in the wall?
If there are you need to spackle the holes, and then after that dries, sand the spots that were spackled.
Then after all the sanding is done, wash the walls down to remove the dust.....
Put a tarp down - so you do not ruin the flooring....
Paint the ceiling first
Then after it is dry, Tape everything off you do not want to paint with painters tape
Prime the walls.
Let that dry a day
And paint the walls.
Dont press too hard with the roller - it may take 2 or 3 coats - depends on the color and the finish.
Remove the tape
Paint the trim......(If you need to tape then do that before)
