Roach problem...UGH....what are your "home remedies"?

There has been a lot of construction around us and we now have these ugly little visitors! I CANNOT stand it! We are clean people but this grossness is just too much.

The problem is mostly in the kitchen. We have tired Boric Acid, raid, combats and the situation is not getting any better! Any suggestions?

Re: Roach problem...UGH....what are your "home remedies"?

Im actually home today- for the ext. is coming to spray for the same reason...

The people a few doors down were evicted, and I know that they are trying to move their cr@p out and paint, and re-carpet and good knows what else...

While- I havent had them inside, there have been a few nights, I had seen them flying around, or on the window outside....

Im a neat freak- and would seriously just die!! They are soooo gross!!!

I bought spray-and sprayed all along the window, and door....(on the inside and outside) Supposedly raid (or combat) makes traps...??? (something about them bringing back food (thats really bait) and then they all eat it and die???? I havent needed it-yet- hopefully the exterminator will do the trick!

I have to be a little careful because I have two dogs that are big sniffers and lickers. That is why I haven't called the exterminator yet. I pulled out the dishwasher and fridge and sprayed and sealed up one ever so tiny hole. I am seriously at the end of my rope here!

I second the Terminix suggestion! I had a crappy neighbor once years ago and got some roaches - we POURED boric acid on the backs of our kitchen shelves and in the crevices of the floor (we vacuumed it up a day or two later), left out traps, took the garbage out every hour, sprayed raid - and we still got them.

Got terminix after seeing a commercial - it works GREAT.

Re: Roach problem...UGH....what are your "home remedies"?

as a side note: something interesting i learned

if u hire an exterminator...let them spray and then do NOT use anything like raid or stuff u buy int he store.... using RAID negates the poison that the exterminator sprays... and then proves worthless..

Re: Roach problem...UGH....what are your "home remedies"?

Here are a few things I did that REALLY worked:

1.) Buy rubberized strips to put on the bottom of all of your outside doors (I'm in an apartment with a terrace, so I bought them for both doors).

They sell these strips at the hardware store, etc. If DH is handy, he can install it (I had the hardware store guy to it). It's not just glue; it is literally nailed to the bottom of the door. It makes it fairly tight (you may no longer be able to slam yor door). I found my waterbug problem came from the hallway.

2.) Buy some caulking/wall putty, get on your hands and knees and on a step stool and fill in EVERY hole you see, especially in the kitchen and bathroom (around medicine cabinets, under kitchen cabinets, etc.). Also, make sure your window A/Cs are sealed TIGHT. You would not believe the holes we found all around the apartment!!! If the hole is big, get some tile and tile glue and cover it with a piece of that if it is in a hidden area (I did that under a cabinet in my kitchen).

3.) Cover all of your drains (sinks, showers, tubs) with drain covers with very small holes. Those disgusting things love drains...

4.) We had the super come up, remove the radiator covers, and fill up any holes with putty.

Some of these things may help.... Good luck!
