need opinions on planning trip for out of state wedding

My girlfriend is getting married in June- she's in Des Moines Iowa. It's a Saturday wedding(4-4:30). We are just planning to stay maybe 3 nights(not making a 'vacation' out of this-we're talking IowaChat Icon We do want to squeeze in a place or 2 to visit while we're there. )
She just emailed me that we are more than welcome to come to the Friday rehearsal dinner and Sunday brunch.
Would you leave say Friday morning, get there early afternoon and go to the dinner? what about the brunch? I haven't been to too many weddings in a long time so just not sure.Chat Icon
Also, I don't want to spend TOO much money on this trip- flight and hotel are almost $1000. My girlfriend has mentioned a few times that we're totally welcome to stay at her (big) house on any of the nights and she wants to contribute something towards the expenses! what!?
what do I tell her?

Take the free room at her house. if you're uncomfortable, try hotwire.com. I got a $169 room for $73 a night!!

We are doing the same, except DH is a groomsman. The wedding is Sat day, we are leaving Thur (I thinka dinner is being held for OOT thur night), rehersal dinner Fri night, wedding Sat Day, we leave Sun.

I drove myself nuts last night looking through all the travel sites! I found what seemed to be pretty good deals for flight/hotel combo. the hotel my gf has reserved is next to the reception in the heart of the city. Definately like the idea of staying in walking distance of the wedding! too many optionsChat Icon
