Gender of Baby

Why do you think most men would prefer to have a boy over a girl. I never truly understood this. Would just like to get some input on this.

Re: Gender of Baby

To carry on the family name...to play catch with...go fishing with..to have a little buddy. LOL Who knows! My DH keeps saying if the baby is a boy he can't wait to take him fishing and play catch and stuff. Every time he sees a father/son doing stuff like that he says "I want to do that!"

I think he would be happy with a girl too but I know he would love a son.

DH wanted a son b/c he was worried he didn't know what to do with a girl. He kept saying "I've never played tea party." or "How do I know what kind of clothes little girls wear" I kept telling him that I wasn't a girly girl so we'd figure it out together. Now he keeps saying how silly it was, he's so happy with his little girl.

Re: Gender of Baby

Maybe it's the same reason women might prefer a girl... I know I would. I don't know anything about sports, fishing or anything "boy related"

Yeah that is true, I never really thought of it that way. I say as long as the baby is healthy there should be no preference but deep down inside everyone has one I am sure. Chat Icon

Re: Gender of Baby

I'm pregnant and for some reason, I'm petrified of a boy. I feel like I won't know what to do with a boy. I have a girl and since I am a girl, I know what to do. Of course, if I had a boy, I'd be thrilled but I still think I'll be more nervous than I was with my daughter.

Does/Did anyone else feel this way about boys?

Actually no - I was hoping for a little boy although everyone told me I looked like I was having a girl.

I think the only reason having a girl scared me is b/c I TORTURED my mother when I was a teenager and she always told me one day I would have a little girl who was going to grow up and do the same to me if not worseChat Icon
Its stuck in my head and I can't get rid of the thought!Chat Icon

Also I LOVE little boys names all my favorite names are for boys. I like girls names too but not the same... I know thats weirdChat Icon

Re: Gender of Baby

with my first i prayed for a boy, i just always wanted a son, and it was a boy! IMO i just think boys are easier they are not as whiney and i think when they get older you dont have to worry about as much stuff. AND i was a HORRIBLE B@@@H when i was a teen.....now that i have both boy/girl and am due in March....we are hoping for a boy!

Everyone tells me that girls are easier now but are tougher down the road. Of course I just want a healthy baby. We're still on the fence about finding out.

Re: Gender of Baby

No I did not find out w/the first and we were so glad we didn't but this time we aren't sure what we want to do. We did agree that if we do find out we would keep it to ourselves and not share the news.

I'm 17 weeks right now. I feel great (thanks for asking). I was exhausted for the first 12 weeks or so but now I'm kind of back to normal.

How are you feeling?

My DH is exactly the same as this...wants a boy so bad so they can one day play sports and stuff together.

I also think that now that DH's father passed away last year...he wants a boy even more so that he can bond with him in ways that DH feels guilty about not doing with his Dad.

Re: Gender of Baby

My husband was definitely not in the "norm" on this one. He actually was hoping for a girl Chat Icon
