When someone puts an addition on a house...tax question
If someone added a second floor on a house over 10 years ago, the town would have reassessed the taxes at that time right?
And a C/O would have been issued also?

You can go down to the town and ask for the latest copy of the C/O. If the addition is on the C/O then the taxes have been reassessed. If the addition is not on the C/O, then the taxes have not been reassessed.

I also would say to check with the town. They might have approved the addition, but the current owner might have never filed the C.O. when the work was complete. I know of people who have lived in their houses for years without "completely" finishing and not filing the CO.

My ILs bought this house over 35 years ago with an open CO, never took care of it, we got it all taken care of when we took possession of the house. Your lawyer can find out if the house has the CO.
