dm24angel......
After hearing about you're experience with the HSG and a bunch of other people's experience, I'm honestly thinking of taking my chances and not going through with it. I don't think I am as brave as you girls. I give you all an exceptional amount of credit.

Everyone's experience is different, mine wasn't bad at all, I just took some Advil before had, had minor cramping and was able to drive myself home right after. I know Donna (dm24angel) and Mrs. J have cervical stenosis which could have resulted in such a painful experience for them.
Have you had issues in the past? do you find gyn exams painful? uncomfortable? if not then maybe you don't have stenosis and the test won't be as painful for you.
Good luck!

Re: dm24angel......
The reason that they are doing the HSG is because I had an ectopic in November. I've never had any pain during exams or even any pain when ovulating or even during AF. The dr.'s say ectopics can happen even when nothing is wrong.

Re: dm24angel......
I wouldnt want you to feel that way. To behonest, I didnt go through with my first one because I was scared, but some many girls told me of their less pianful experiences with it, that I went ahead. your Dr's do need to rule out a blocked tube, especially if you had an etopic.
I have heard a lot of women say they felt nothing more then some cramping, so that could be you.
The only thing I can say is it is over FAST. And I would have taken more pain meds. Like 2 tylenol an hour before and then 2 more 1/2 before. I took 3 1/2 hour before and I dont think they had kicked in yet.
My cervical issues definatly played a part in how painful mine was.

Re: dm24angel......
I am sorry you feel this way. My experience was not pleasant but like I told Donna it was fast. If you survived an ectopic, you can do this!! Yes, for some it is unpleasant.... take some motirn before hand and just focus on how fast it is. Probably before you count to 20 its over.

Re: dm24angel......
While I understand what you are saying, please consider that if you don't do the HSG, you will never know if there is a potential problem.
I put off the HSG 3 times and would have bet money on the fact that I was perfectly healthy and fine. I ended up doing it anyway and it turns out I had mild endometriosis causing a blocked tube, and a large polyp blocking the other one. I wasted 18 mos trying to conceive and being disappointed each month, when in reality it was hardly possible to even get pregnant.
You should do it only when you are ready, but I wanted to tell you my story. I had the endo and polyp removed and now the doc said I should try try try to conceive again!

Re: dm24angel......
I took 3 advils two hours prior to the exam and then 3 more advil 1 hour prior. I had slight AF cramping and that was it. It's important to know what your situation is.
Go at your own pace.

Re: dm24angel......
For me, the nerves beforehand were the worst part of the experience! I had really worked myself up-- could barely eat lunch that day, and in my frenzy I FORGOT to take the Advil beforehand. I made DH come with me, etc.
In the end there was just a little cramping. I could not believe the emotional stress I had put myself through for that.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do
