Ava's 1st birthday party - DILEMMA Please help!
Hi my friends,
I am in the process of starting to plan Ava's first birthday party. Her b-day is on the 4th of July. So, first of all, we are undecided as to what date to have it. My cousins daughter is 3 days older then Ava (born on July 1st), and she is having her daughters party on the 1st.
We have decided not to do a dual-birthday party. I feel bad having it on the 2nd becuase that will be probably too much for our family. So the only other option is Tuesday, July 4th (her b-day) but I have been advised that people might have other plans that day and advised to do it the following weekend.
What do you guys recommend I do?
Secondly, we are looking to invite about 50-60 people. My backyard is too small, so my sister so generously said she will have the party at her house. She has a bigger backyard than I do. Should we have a backyard party or do it in a restaurant. My DH feels 50 -60 people is too big for anyones backyard......... I just thought it would be nice outdoors becuase the weather is nice in July (hopefully) and the kids can run around and play. But I also have to worry about rain...
Please help me decide what to do. My DH also doesn't want to do a park. I had inquired about that in my last post.
Thank you so much, Denise

I think you should have in when you want to have it. Make sure you start telling everyone now about the date. If it is important to them to be there they will make sure that they arrange their plans accordingly.

I think if you start telling friends and family now, that you are having her party on 7/4. People will make plans to be at your party. I think 50-60 people of a backyard party is doable if you have a big enough yard. We had Alex's christening in my mom's backyard with 40 people and it was fine (her yard is 100x100) I would definitely recommend getting a tent in the case of rain. Also, another recommendation would be to get a porter potty. We rent them all the time for parites and they work out great, even if just the boys use it. They are very very clean and I have used it myself. It will help with lines for the bathroom and save your sister's cesspool a lot of work. They rent for $100, definitely worth it. If you want I can give you the name of the company we use. They are great.

We had my 1st DS's party (in July) at the Queens County Farm (we rented the Pavilion)... luckily it was a beautiful day!
Still debating where to have #2's August party.
