what is the best way to do it? I mean, how do I get the best value?

See if you can get vacation packages. Something that would include air, hotel and passes.
Non disney resort such as the Ramada including air can be lower then a Disney resort such as Port Orleans Resort.
I would suggest getting a package because you can get everything included and often at lower rate then getting everything seperate.

Try going to expedia.com and or orbitz.com They offer combo packages for air/hotel where you can add tickets to the parks, tours, cars etc on as well.

Re: If I wanted to surprise DH with a trip to Disney
You have to check both ways. Packages are NOT always cheaper!!!!!!! And depending on the number of days you want to stay, an annual pass miught be the nbest way to go. it used to even out after 8 days, nbot incuding the hotel disocunts, etc, now it's about 11 days w.o the hotel discounts (they lowered the rpice of everyday tickets). but the hotels disocunts sometimes save you more than enough to make ti worth it. We saved over 50% on our hotels for one trip and 40% on another. In 2004 we saved about $700 on hotels! And then we saved another $50 on a rental car we'd gotten in Ft. Lauderdale.
Sometimes if you shop around on Song airlines or JetBlue and you look at what's offered and you look for codes on mousesavers.com, you can get a much better deal than a package deal. It deoends on the time of year though, in the off season, disney themselves offer amazing packages, but you have to be aware of the codes because they won't volunteer the information!
ETA: Disney is 1 407 WDISNEY
I've always found the best deals calling them directly,
Alos if you have cablevision, channel 650 has all kinds of planning guides

Re: If I wanted to surprise DH with a trip to Disney
I myself have found MOST of the best deals when I booked everything seperately and did my homework. After you find prices on certain hotels, CALL them directly. Alot of time they have even better prices. Maybe u can ask him to take the time off of work for something else and then surprise him like a couple days before? Everytime I surprise DH I give him a few days heads ups.

I don't know much about it, but disney was having some promotion that included a free meal plan so you should definitely call them to get details about that.

Also, do you want to stay on proprty or off? That will make a difference in how you go about your planning and where you look
