Is anyone here signed up for Upromise?

I'm just wondering how much advertising, junk mail, and telemarketing you got (if any) as a result of signing up for this. I want to sign up but reading all the fine print really scares me...they basically track all your purchases and just keep tabs on your spending habits... it's kinda creepy to be honest... but if the savings are worth it, then maybe I'll put myself out there. Any experiences?

I have been a member since 02/04, and at my last statement I had a whopping $16 Chat Icon . I totally don't think it's worth it. You do get emails from them, but not enough to really bother me. You only get pennies for everything you buy, so it really is not worth it financially, IMO.

ETA: here are some details from last month:

01/06/06 Groceries at Stop & Shop transaction on 12/29/05 $0.11

01/06/06 Details Groceries at Stop & Shop transaction on 12/27/05 $0.13

12/28/05 Details Groceries at Stop & Shop transaction on 12/18/05 $0.06

12/21/05 Details Groceries at Stop & Shop transaction on 12/11/05 $0.04

I do it and yes, for grocery shopping, its penny's to the dollar. However, gas cards also register, per gallon, and so do certain cards if you use them to shop on line or with certain stores.

Another huge thing for me was when I leased my car back in 2003 - GM put $150 into my account, so that alone was worth it.

I have my UPromise linked to my 529 plan, so the money is transferred and invested there.

Also, you can have family members register their cards too, and anything they spend goes to your account.

Trish - how much do you get for gas? I just checked my statements and the average fill-up only gets me $.12 - $.14. Am I doing something wrong??

I don't feel like I've gotten any junk from them. In just a couple of months I have $7 from online purchases. You can do tons of online shopping through them. Some places like shutterfly give up to 7%. To me its free money so after 18 years it can't hurt.

I have $35 in mine after about a year. I really wouldn't say I get much junk from them at all, if any.

Karen, I am not even sure any more. I thought it was 5-cents a gallon, but I think its gone down and is like 1 or 2 cents a gallon.

Re: Is anyone here signed up for Upromise?

I have a bit of money in the Upromise account for the kids, can't say it's a lot, but it's better than nothing... I have the Upromise money and a set amount each month transfered into the kids 529 account... every penny counts when it comes to college!

If you set up the RemindU... it'll automatically remind you when a site contributes to Upromise whenever you're doing online shopping.

I have a Upromise account. I figured it couldn't hurt since I wasn't adding anything to it.

I have a Upromise account and in 2 years I had a little over $130. Pep Boys and shutterfly have been big contributers . It is linked to her 529 college account so every penny helps! I only recieve monthly emailed from them, nothing annoying.

Re: Is anyone here signed up for Upromise?

I have an account...no kids yet, but you can pick someone to designate the account to at a later date. I have been a memeber since 6/2001 and I have about $450 in my account. I have all my credit cards signed up...and I used my debit card for just about everything, so I think that's where the bulk is coming from. I will roll it over into a 529 when I have someone's name to attach it to.

Re: Is anyone here signed up for Upromise?

I do it for my nephew and over the last year alone I have given him almost $100.

We have grocery cards, 3 CC's signed up. Plus, when you go out to eat some restaurants will contribute as well. I always try and shop through the upromise store when I can so I know he'll get the money back as well.

Every little bit helps so I think it's worth it.

I don't get any junk mail from them at all.

Re: Is anyone here signed up for Upromise?

DH and I get about $40 a month...my MIL registered all her credit cards and grocery store discount cards to our account so it adds up. I'm happy that we did it...because no matter how little or how much $$ we get...its still free money for James' future.
