Twinslegislation.com Parents advocacy group for choice in classroom placement of twins.
Hi all, We have a parent advocacy group based out of Long Island http://www.twinslegislation.com which is assisting parents nationwide to ensure that a Twin Bill becomes a reality for all. The Bill allows parents to have a choice in the placement of their twins, triplets and higher order multiples either separately or together. Currently many schools enforce mandatory separation beginning as early as pre-k, which is CONTRARY to what all research dictates.
The website is home to petitions for 11 states and counting; NY, NJ, PA, CT, TX, CA, MA, GA, FLA, NC, TX.
Please take a moment to sign our petitions for choice. YOu do not have to have twins or be from the states in question. You only need to support a flexible placement policy and a parents right to choose. Help us ensure that our children are placed in classrooms according to their individual needs and not upon the condition of their birth!
Thanks Kathy

As a twin & a mother, I have to say that I completely agree that twins should be separated in the classroom for the twins' sake.

The district where I teach allows the parents to choose. We've had twins in the same class and twins separated. I believe the parents should have the right to choose to have their children separated of not separated.

I signed it, I don't like that every child and situation is not taken into consideration before deciding class rooms. Some twins do better together and some do better apart.

I totally agree with you. While I think i would prefer to have my twins in seperate classrooms, it should be mine and DH"s decision and no one elses.

I am a teacher and have seen considerations made for twins. I do agree though that twins should be seperated so that they gain a sense of independcy. In my school, I see twins seperated who gain double the friendships because of the others and have plenty to talk about at home because they each had a different day. JMO

I'm just starting all my twin child reading now, but from what I think without reading, I agree.

As an educator, I agree. Rarely, do I not have twins separated. This year I didn't and there were problems. They usually do better socially when separated. At some point they have to have their own identity and own lives.

Not sure I would really want my boys in the same class together.

Re: Twinslegislation.com Parents advocacy group for choice in classroom placement of twins.
I have read that to some twins being seperated is too tramatic and causes undo stress on them and causes them to do do as well in school as they could have if they were together. It really depends on the child and how they will benefit, it should not be a blanket decision.

In my school district, they usually seperate the twins, unless the parents request otherwise, or schedules do not allow it.

Re: Twinslegislation.com Parents advocacy group for choice in classroom placement of twins.
as a teacher who has had not only several sets of twins, but also quads, i support NOT keeping them together. they grow as individuals and not as a pair when they are treated as any other child, and not as the "twin". they make their own friends, have their own identities and are their own people. since they are together at recess, lunch and at home, i don't understand the purpose of keeping them together during school. i'm sorry to say that i cannot sign the petition as i don't support it.
the good thing is that everyone has different experiences, so if you feel this is necessary, i support that. best of luck!
